Higher end hotels in Lake George area

Thinking about visiting Lake George but we are really particular about where we stay.

Are there any higher end chains there ? If no chains, any higher end recs and any other details appreciated as well!

No cabins, or bed and breakfasts please. I should also say it should be kid friendly.

Re: Higher end hotels in Lake George area

we're going this weekend!!!!
we rent a cabin right on the lake in Bolton Landing (about 15 minutes from the village) called Candlelight Cottages. You walk outside and the lake is right there, you can see it from your deck. Each cabin has a kitchen, living room, grill, bedrooms, bathroom, heat, A/C, the website isn't much to look at but trust me we stayed here quite a few times and LOVE it. Plus the pricing is very reasonable. We rented a 2 bedroom this weekend with another couple and it's 600 total so 300 a couple. These are off season rates for 2 of the 3 nights. They also have 1 bedroom cottages. We usualy pick up food at hte store up there and cook for a few nights and breakfast then go out for dinner one night and a lunch. there is also a winery up there and a brewery. Oh and they also have kayaks, canoes and paddle boats at the cottages that are free of charge. We rented a boat last time we were there and went tubing in the lake. It truly is a great place!
It is very close to everything.

Re: Higher end hotels in Lake George area

I stayed at the Sagamore in July -- and if you are going sans kids its awesome, great restaurants, great spa, pools, the works. With kids? Stay home -- it sucked -- we left early. There is no way to get a stroller to the pool, there are two outdoors but kids under 16 can only use one and the indoor one is for adults only. They have a nice rec center *if* you want to spend your time indoors and far away from the mainstream of the actual hotel, and the only way my 20 month old would have been allowed into the restaurants would be if we muzzled him and brought a straight jacket.
We spent the other 1/2 of the trip at the Holiday Inn - Turf it was awesome, I am gold with Hilton and have stayed at the Hampton Inn, this one blows the Hilton away hands down. CLEAN, HUGH rooms with fridge, awesome view of lake and fireworks, very very kid friendly and staff friendly. Restaurant is decent.
Years past we have done vrbo, diamond point, hampton inn, cresthaven rentals

Thanks for this. Yes, I should have said with kids....

Not a fan of a cabin, thanks though ladies.

And I a bit confused with your reply...this part...above...not sure what you mean or if it's a typo.

Why was it hard to get a stroller to the pool btw?

Re: Higher end hotels in Lake George area

Sorry Hilton Honors goes in tiers Blue, Silver, Gold and Diamond based on how often you stay with them. Having a status with Hilton *sometimes* gives you perks like upgraded rooms, free breakfast, etc. The higher you are the more perks you get. I would give up perks and stay at the Holiday Inn without question. It is immaculate (I'm the crazy one who walks into the room, strips down the bed and checks to make sure the sheets are clean and there are no bed bugs). When you walk in they hand you a daily schedule of all the kids activities they have planned (almost every hour), they have kids center, indoor and outdoor pool and many things for the kids to do. AND you don't have to leave the hotel for the fireworks (which if you are up there are trying to find parking on a Thursday night by the lake is a hugh deal). Kids eat free for each adult at the hotel too. We go up every year, we actually stayed at the sagamore every year for the past 5 (they switched owners about 2 years back). The Sag is on a steep hill, you have to walk down a hill to get to the pool, there is an elevator but you STILL have to go up steps and through a gate and then down steps to go the the one pool the kids are allowed in. (and NO one will help you either) I was really disappointed with the overall experience. Checking in was a disaster, they saw we had two kids (sorry I should really update my screen name), and a disabled husband and they gave us a room where you had to walk down a flight of steps , we went back and 4 hours later they told us *you're lucky, we were able to change your room* They also made sure we knew about their babysitting services....LUCK? We were lucky we were able to check out early.....IF we weren't with the kids it would have been a different experience, spa, pool, cocktails on the veranda.

Other than the holiday inn, the hampton is nice, and there is great espcape lodge that has the indoor water park (this is about 10 minutes from the lake but its really nice inside). I also heard the Georgian is nice but I have never stayed there.

Thank you for all of this. I get it now. I will keep this all in mind, thanks! And I am crazy about checking my room too.

Re: Higher end hotels in Lake George area

I second The Sagamore. It's definately one of the nicest in the Lake George area.

Also, you can try the Fort William Henry - but make sure you ask for a room in the main hotel. These rooms are really nice and located right in the village.

Another one that you might want to try is the Canoe Island Lodge. Its a private resort in Diamond Point. A little pricey, but totally worth it and kid friendly.
