High MCV on Blood work?

Not sure but google shows that anemia is linked to the different levels. I would drive yourself crazy though because if normal is 89 and your ds is 90 they probably won't do anything other than maybe keep an eye on it.

My ds was anemic at 2 years and we just put him on a different vital and within 3 months he was retested and normal.

So close to normal.
Might want a multivitamin... most common cause is folate or B12 deficiency.

Mean corpuscular volume. Essentially her reds blood cells are a little big. Could be a b12 deficiency or nothing at all. So mildly elevated. Mine is 100 and I'm fine :).

Thank you guys!! I'm over here being hard on myself and driving myself crazy searching the Internet
Chat Icon my SIL seems to think it might be a lack of vitamins and minerals due to the fact that my DD only drinks water and suggested I start giving her juice (50% juice and 50% water). Said that since my dd only drinks water it just flushes out her system and that may be causing the deficiencies. Needless to say, I just sent DH out to buy juice... I'll try anything lol

Talk to the dr first. Water is supposed to be the best thing for kids to drink. We are always told to limit juice. I don't think that is going to change the blood work.

Re: High MCV on Blood work?

Yeah this has nothing to do with juice. Juice has zero nutritional value so it isn't going to help anything. That sounds like really bad advice.

I would steer clear of any advice from your SIL because juice is not going to decrease the size of your daughter's red blood cells.

Being 1 point out of range means nothing. Did you check her bw online? I hate that labs even allow that. If you didn't check it yourself I'd be surprised if the ped even mentioned it to you.

Doc said she's totally fine since in all other areas she fell within the normal range. Said to just keep doing what we're doing and continue giving her water and not juice. She also said that MCV measures the volume of blood circulating and this will constantly fluctuate according to how hydrated my dd is. I feel so much better! I really appreciate all of ur adviceChat Icon Chat Icon
