hernia question
DH has been in pain lately and just found out that he needs surgery for a hernia. I've read that this can sometimes affect fertility. I called the doctor and he said that it wouldn't...that DH just won't feel like doing much for two weeks after the surgery. We also may have to cancel our cycle this month (IUI #4), depending on when the surgery is scheduled.
Why does everything I read on the internet say that this surgery could affect male fertility???? Anyone have a DH that had this?

Bummer...he doesn't take our insurance.
I know..he doesn't take any insurance.. .his first visit is $575 then $120.......but the good thing is that I have BCBS and submit a claim form...they cover 80% of the cost so in the end it is not too bad....
He is great!!! He is the only male infertility doctor citied it in the Best Doctors in America....

Re: hernia question
I really don't know much about hernias, but my husband just went to male urologist that specializes in Male Infertility in Garden City. Anyway, my husband had a double hernias when he was a baby and had surgery. The urologist gave my husband serveral test and procedures and he found no sperm at all. He thinks it could be from the Hernias or it's a genetic issue. But I have heard of a lot of cases like mine, where there husbands had childhood hernias and couldn't produce any sperm. I would get a second option. The doctor we used takes insurance his name is Dr. Mellinger in Garden City Plaza. Good Luck!

Re: hernia question
I live in Queens and we are currently going to Columbia in Manhattan. I think that hernias may only cause fertility issues when they are found at the infant stage. The doctor I spoke to yesterday said that in adult males it should not affect fertility. We have an appt. with the surgeon tomorrow afternoon. I think we will also be able to go ahead with IUI #4, but I'm thinking that it would happen this weekend, so it depends on how quickly the surgery needs to be done.
