Help with Pirate B-day Theme

DS turns 1 on May 5th. Other DS turns 5 on June 6th. My parents are finally getting to go to Paris after some real crazy family stuff so they will be away fro DS 1st B_day day. Not a big thing to me since I'm going to combine their parties. We have so many other things going on with both sides of the families in May anyway. Communions etc...

So now I'm going to have a pirate theme for my DS (5) but I'd like to have a cute pirate theme if possible. No Pirates of the carribean thing. How can I incorporate my little guys birthday into the samr theme is possible. Any suggestions? i'm at a loss right now. I have to go do a search for pirate partyware and see what turns up. TIA!!

Re: Help with Pirate B-day Theme

We had a pirate party for DS when he was younger. They have pirate paper goods at just about every party store since it's a popular theme. I made my own invites on scroll patterned paper that turned out really really cute. I actually sold them on ebay for the longest time after the party! I made cupcakes and printed out pirate flags, attached them to a toothpick and stuck them in the cupcake. I used red icing to outline the top of the cupcake. Lots of compliments on those also. I ordered pirate hats in bulk on ebay and the kids loved them.

www.birthdaypartyideas.com has some great ideas!

Re: Help with Pirate B-day Theme

Are you looking for games/ decorations/ favors? OK...I'm totally making this up as I go along, so bear with me.

Maybe for games:

* Treasure Hunt-
Give out picture clues- take pics of where some treasure might be hidden (if it's in your yard)...behind a tree, under a rock, behind your swingset...wherever. Hide tickets. Kids will collect the tickets and put in a baggie. AT each hiding spot, have another picture clue (pic glued to a ripped piece of paper resembling an old map. Don't forget to draw the red "X". They can redeem their tickets at the end of the hunt.

* Dig for buried treasure:
Get a LARGE children's plastic pool (or sandbox). Fill with playsand. Bury gold coins. Give out shovels and break kids into groups (by age). Set a timer and have kids dig for gold. Put in baggie. redeem gold for prize at end.

* Walk the Plank
Set up 2 large, long boards (surfboard; plank of wood; etc.) Line up kids in 2 lines. Do a relay race. First kid on each line has to walk the plank with a beach ball between their legs. Can't fall off the plank(which is on the floor). Turn around at the end, come back to line, pass ball to next kid in line, then they walk the plank. First group that has all players walk the plank, wins.

Favors:
I tried to order these today for my business, but was told that these don't mail well in the winter. They will probably get them in the spring/ early summer. But if you like, I am ordering these:

Totally goes with your theme.

Good luck and happy planning!

Re: Help with Pirate B-day Theme

You can get little wooden treasure boxes at Michaels and have the kids paint them or color them with markers .. and you can fill them with beads or "gems"

definitly have a scavanger hunt.
