help with oven!!
Last night I was baking some eggplant pieces, when I went to take the dish out to toss the pieces around, I lost my grip on the dish and eggplant pieces went flying. Most hit the bottom of the oven, but some pieces fell into the opening on the bottom where the heat comes out. I turned the oven off and when it was cool I picked out as much as I could, but there are still pieces there.
What do I do now? Can I use the oven? Im afraid it will cause a fire and smoke real bad.
HELP!
THanks!
eta: I should add that its a gas oven. Its the same oven from when we moved in, so I dont know info about model number/etc.

Re: help with oven!!
My grandma has had the same gas oven for the past 40 yrs at least.
I'm sure there are tons of food particles in there.
I wouldn't worry - I'm sure it happens a lot.

It might smoke, but just be prepared to turn a fan on and/or open a window. It happens with all ovens. Gas or electric, if food spills on the bottom, or below, it's probably going to smoke.

I wouldn't take it off especially it being a gas oven, i would be scared I'd mess something up.
What I would do is wait a few days without using the oven. Whatever food fell in the holes will dry up. Then maybe put the vacuum hose by it to try to suck some of the pieces out.
If you can't get anything out just be prepared for some smoke and maybe a strange smell.

Re: help with oven!!
I may or may not have melted plastic in my oven. DH put plastic tupperware in the oven to get it out of the way and I put it on to pre-heat without checking it out first. The plastic melted everywhere. I cleaned it out as best I could, but still it smoked the next time I put it on. I put on the vent and let it air out before using it and now it's just fine.

Re: help with oven!!
Do you have a pull out broiler tray on the bottom ? If so, pull out the drawer completely, and you should be able to clean out anything that may be there.
