Help us settle stroller debate

My husband and I are not seeing eye to eye on this! Our dc will be exactly 3 years apart. As I am a ftwm, we are not huge walkers - it's home, dinner, bed!

I'm thinking my 3 year old will not be In the stroller for much longer, and I would prefer to just use 2 separate single strollers when we do go out (usually it's dh and myself). If anything, I can compromise on a sit and stand or joovy.

My dh strongly feels that our first dc is still young and that there will be times there will just be one of us going out with both. He wants us to invest in a double stroller. So, our options are:

1) two single strollers (no new purchases necessary)
2) sit-and -stand type
3) classic double (ie b-agile double)
4) a single-double transitional one like the city select where we can do single or double depending on the outing.

I'd love to hear your feedback, especially if you have a similar age spread. I should add that I have quite the collection of single strollers and absolutely love love each of them for their own reasons (peg perego, uppa g-lux, b-agile single).

My kids are almost 3 years apart. We got the bready and we used it but not for long. It's now sitting in storage. When we go out we use to small single. We have a uppa baby umbrella and a peg perego that fits the infant seat. We got the bready b/c I am a sahm and I was living in Boston and walked a lot. I couldn't have dd1 walking busy streets. But then we moved and dd1 is older so doesn't use the stroller as much ebbs though she would lol. When we travel 2 singles b/c the double is huge.

I think you might like the City select with a skateboard/ride on board. I love the size of the basket, and it can configure into so many different options. The only downside I believe is how heavy it is. Good luck~!

I think you could go either way. My girls are 2.5 years apart and we have the b agile double. I love it but we don't use it that often. We mainly use it for sesame, the zoo, fairs, etc. For the most part it's big days out that I wouldn't be doing alone but I have done a fair or two alone and wouldn't be able to without the double stroller. I'm sure we'll hit the mall once it twice before the holidays and I'll use it then. Recently we went away and just brought two double to have more flexibility and it worked out well.

My kids are exactly two years apart. Almost to the day and I have yet to use a double stroller. Only plan on using it at bronx zoo in a few weeks. Dd1 walks and holds my hand. Dd2 is in the infant seat clicked into the stroller.

I'm having the same issue. My two will be 3.5 years apart, and DD is big for her age, so by the time the baby is born, she will likely be near or over the 40 lb weight limit that most double stroller seats have. I don't want to invest a lot in a double stroller for that reasons as well as the fact that she already doesn't like going in the stroller. Yet, I hate to not be able to take walks all of next spring and summer if I don't have a double, since by then I still wouldn't trust DD to walk safely in the street, nor would she be able to keep up with me for long distances. So I will probably just get either a cheap double stroller like a baby trend, or try to find a used one on craigslist so I don't have to feel bad about spending too much on it if we don't get much use out of it.

Never used a double stroller. My kids are 26 months apart. Two singles is my vote.

My children are 3 years apart and we have a double stroller.

DS is a big stroller kid and loves to be in it, so sit n stand would never have worked for us. We use ours all the time and I too am a FTWM.

My kids were 1.5 years apart & we used the double for less than 1 year.

I see some people use it often... But our kids liked to walk & it's actually easier without a stroller at all.

DD is just over 3 & I have a new baby. I wouldn't think about putting DD in a stroller! She walks everywhere (including Disney & Bronx zoo).

Re: Help us settle stroller debate

My kids are exactly 3 yrs apart. I was home w DD for her first year, I bought a sit n stand for the purpose of walking to park, store when I was home w both of them, eventhough DS was in school 3 days I felt it got good use, as a FTWM I don't know if it is necessary though. When DH and I were/are together we never used sit n stand, always each pushed a stroller, the single strollers are so much less bulky that we would only use the sit n stand if it were one of us w both kids.

Joovy Caboose Ultralight. It is a sit and stand with a seat. My kids are 3 years aparts and we use it all the time. It's the best thing for hersey, sesame place etc.

This is our situation. I am on maternity leave and while it is short, it would be tough to go some places without the double. Also, if you're husband wants the double -take it and make him push Chat Icon - it's a pain but worth it in my opinion. Can you get one used?

Re: Help us settle stroller debate

my kids are only 15 months apart so for us a double was a must. DD is now 2.5 (ds is only 15m) and she still enjoys being in the stroller. For us, a double is still a necessity. i walked every day on maternity leave. my mom (who watches the kids daily) walks the kids daily, and we take them out for a walk on the weekends.

I just recently purchased the "buggy board" to attached to our single stroller so DD can ride along and it was a huge help when we go places (the zoo etc so we arent schlepping the double and Dd has the option to ride or walk). But, i find it hard to maneuver (the height of the board, the handle of the stroller etc) so i try not to use this option.

I would not spend money on the city select bc you would be spending as much money as you would on a double and you would have to always have the extra seat with you...for that may as well take a double. plus, the seats are small for a 3yo imo.

From my experience, I would suggest an actual sit and stand...but go test them out with your 3yo in store before buying. I personally would consider buying a sit and stand but DH would kill me!

My older two are 1.5 years apart and I never had a double and never needed one. We did have a sit & stand which didn't see a lot of use though. Your older DD will be big enough where she could just sit in one of those $25 umbrella strollers if need be.

What's one more, lol? If you still use your single for DD1, I think you'll get use out of the double. I would get the city mini or britax b-agile.
While I use the single a lot, I do still use my double and DD is close to 3.

Re: Help us settle stroller debate

My boys are 3y4m apart in age and we didn't buy a double stroller. DS2 is only two months old but so far it hasn't been an issue. DS1 hasnt really used a stroller in a while but if for some reason he needs to use one, we will either bring out both single strollers or I will wear DS2.

Same - my kids are 5 3/4 and 3 1/2 and I still use it for walks or things that require lots of walking. I feel like I couldn't live without it.

This..I would get a boogie board and attach it to your single. Also you can always make sure you hav your carrier with you that way if DC#1 wants to sit in the stroller, you can take DC#2 out and put him or her in the carrier.

I wouldn't invest in a double in your situation unless you got a great deal second hand.

Mine are a little over 2 years apart and the only thing we ever used was the sit and stand, and even that we didn't use very often.

Re: Help us settle stroller debate

Wow, thank you everyone for your input! This has all been very helpful. Dd is tiny for her age (about 26 lbs) and she's the slowest walker in the world. I love the idea of bringing her as we check out strollers. We were going to leave her with a relative so we could have some peace and quiet, but seeing how she fits would probably be a good idea!

Re: Help us settle stroller debate

My kids are 3 years a part and we started with just using the standing board on our uppa baby vista. It worked great for a while and we will use it but I got annoyed folding it and lifting it into the car so we got the city mini double and really like it. We waited almost a year until buying it trying not to need a double but it's been good to us the last few months.

Is it hard to push a single stroller with the boogie board attached?

Unless you visit zoos, amusement parks, and big cities on a very regular basis, I don't think a double is necessary.
