So I took a look at some of the towns and was wondering - is there something "wrong" with Huntington?
The Huntington Schools are not as good as the other schools in the area (graduation rates, classroom size, test scores, gangs). It can vary greatly though. Huntington Station tends to be not as nice, but in the same zip code, Dix Hills and South Huntington have multi-million dollar houses and some of the top schools (half hollow hills).

Re: Help me find a town to live in!
If you look in Huntington (very far north Huntington) you might get into Cold Spring Harbor School district ( want to say it's distric 1. South Huntington is District 13 and Huntington is District 3). You might have to look under Lloyd Harbor.....although not sure if you'll find a house in this price range.
Some people stay away from Huntington because of the school district. I'm probably the odd ball here but I grew up in Huntington and I recommend living there. Yes, the schools were not the greatest HOWEVER, I know doctors, lawyers, that are VERY VERY successful. Both areas of Huntington school district (Huntington & South Huntington) are very diverse. You go from poor to very very wealth.
Huntington has so much to offer, great restaurants, beaches, entertainment, 10 minutes to the mall, LIE, Northern State. The commute to Manhattan is 1 hour door to door (depending on where in Manhattan you work).
I guess I'm partial to Huntington. I live in Kings Park now and all of my doctors are in Huntington.

It depends on where you are in huntington. By the train station is not so nice, but areas like Halesite and Huntington Viliage- really nice - try looking there. Melville is also in the area and is very nice. Also remember of almost all the towns mentioned, Hunt. is the furthest east, and that accounts for a price difference as well.
