Help me find a racoon proof garbage can!
Well, apparently the resident racoon loves my cooking and our garbage. We have been using a bungee cord , It worked for about a year, this past week 2x we have found the garbage can opened and turned upsdie down and eaten!!! We have used a bungee cord, and it has learned how to take it off! Can someone help me find a racoon proof garbage can ? Thanks!

I would be interested to find one as well. We have the same problem with racoons. We have tried the bungee cord and have come to find our cans over turned with the bungee still attached but the garbage bag inside has been totally destroyed!
Racoons are very smart! We covered our garbage with bleach and (knock on wood) haven't really had a problem since! I feel like this is a little mean, no matter how much I dislike them and what they do to my trash.

This will sound mean but it worked. We mixed tabasco and hot red pepper with some water and sprayed it on and around the cans. They moved on in a few days. We had a big problem with raccoons and had to get rid of them.
This year we are over run with rabbits At least they don't knock over the garbage. Wild kingdom Nassau County

We use bungee cords AND amonia.
We doubble wrap the bungee cords around the handle and make them super tight. So far, so good. They have knocked over the cans, but cans get insode.
The other thing is we spray the shizz out of the cans with amonia, inside and out. The amonia is a detterent because it smells like animals pee-pee. So they think another big guy is around, so they dont want to come near.
Amonia is the absolute key.
