Re: Help get EBF baby take a bottle

I don't have experience as DD is ok with boob & bottles but just had some ideas:

- I never give DD a bottle; I am the boob lady, not the bottle lady! Haha! If DD gets a bottle it's given by someone other than me. Maybe try this if u haven't already? Have someone other than u give the bottle in a place/room you don't normally BF in.

-maybe try to give bottle when LO is really hungry? Like stall DD off on a feeding for a half hour or hour if u can & then offer bottle? (or you could try this for the 1st feeding of the day if DD STTN) Maybe if DD is very hungry she won't care where the milk is coming from & give into/get used to the bottle.

-try different bottles. Maybe DD doesn't like the bottles you have been using? I pump into medela bottles but feed DD from born free bottles (I liked that they had the special Insert thingy to prevent gas). Other people rave about dr browns & tommee tippee so maybe you want to try some of those if you haven't already? Buy 1 of a few bottles & see if DD takes a liking to an certain kind

I said, those r just suggestions, not from my actual experience. Good luck Chat Icon

I agree with all of this. I gave bottles very sporadically with DS1 before I returned to work. A few weeks before going back, I had a shower and left him with DH. DS barely drank the bottle. I was worried, but he ended up doing fine once he started daycare. Good luck!

Try a few different kinds. Also, is there a way for you not to be the one to give it to him? He might smell you, and wonder why he's getting take-out instead of a home cooked meal Chat Icon

Help get EBF baby take a bottle

I agree with a pp in that you should have someone else do the bottles if you can. We had this issue also and I was wreck, but it was because my grandmother died and I just couldn't have him with me all day everyday that week. He HATED all the bottles we had and after trying so many what worked was the medela bottle with the free hospital nipple! Go figure. Now we do the Gerber First Essentials bottles or the Evenflo. He likes nipples that look like an erect bfing nipple lol. Sorry but there is no other way to explain it.

I have no advice. I had one kid who did boob and bottle, no prob, and one who never took the bottle. He ended up going straight to a cup, but that was after a few starving-till-mama-gets-home days.

I have a bunch of different bottles that we tried unsuccessfully. You're welcome to them if you want to try them.
I have an Adiri, (sposed to be just like a boob--didn't fool my guy), a Tommee Tippee, a Nuk, Dr Browns, and an Avent soft spout cup.
I'm in Holbrook, if you'd like to stop by and get them. FM me.

I had a similar post not so long ago. The thing that worked best for getting DS to take a bottle (he was and still is EBF) was to use a bottle with a latex nipple and not a silicone nipple. The latex nipples were so much easier for him to latch on to.

We also had trouble, it turned out the milk had to be just the right temperature for him to eat it. He liked it very warm.
