Help!! BTDT advice from moms with 2 or more where their older child is "high spirited"

I have 2 that are 23 months apart (DD#2 is only 7 weeks). How do you all get out of the house without help? My DD#2 has colic and reflux and DD#1 is high spirited and into everything and very inquisitive - and often doesn't listen. Trips to the park or this past weekend to the boardwalk with just DH and I seem to be a real struggle. DD#2 will sit in the stroller only so long then she is OFF - and running everywhere, she will only hold my hand OR the side of the stroller for 2 mins tops. How do you get out? I feel like if I was alone I would have to leave the baby to chase her b.c she is climbing into small places, running between people that it isn't easy to chase her with the stroller (DD#2 doesn't like the baby carriers and I can't pick up DD#1 if I have DD#2 in a carrier too) - DH even has trouble keeping up sometimes - that he eventually picks her up which causes a huge temper tantrum at times. Errands don't seem like they will be a problem b.c if I time it right the stroller with a snack works great - but I would like to start sometime in the next few weeks taking DD out to the playground or some other kinds of activities - but it seems that when we do things on the weekends that it really takes 2 people to achieve it. Does it get better? I see others who are easily able to get out - maybe it is just that my DD is high spirited but there has to be others out there who have been thru this that could offer some advice.

What works for me is I go to the park EARLY! Right after I drop my oldest off at camp at 9am, we head to the park. I go when no one is there. Sometimes we get there a little later but it's still nice and quiet. The older they are getting they seem get better but they are NOT stroller kids or shopping cart kids. most of the time when I run errands I have to be in and out. Sometimes I can browse the store but they are more or less like little bombs waiting to go off. Chat Icon
So I totally understand. It might get hard before it gets easy...but one thing for sure is the phase will end. Even for me it's gotten a lot better!
