Help - our fridge is dented and I'm not sure who is responsible (long - sorry)
We're having our wood floors refinished in the kitchen, foyer, and dining room. We're using a pretty big company here in Illinois. Part of the deal is that they move the appliances (fridge & oven) and refinish underneath. Personally, this wasn't a big deal to me since I think the floor there will always be covered but DH felt it was important. The guy doing the work called yesterday and said there was a dent on the fridge that I needed to see before they move it. We have a stainless steel fridge that is pretty new. The sellers re-did most of the kitchen including appliances before putting the house on the market. The dent is small (approx. 1/2 an inch) on the front of the door a little bit lower than halfway up. I never noticed it before. I went there today to see it and it is possible it was there and we didn't notice, but I don't think so. I came home & blew up the only picture I have that has the fridge in it and I see no dent. It is possible it's there and I can't see it since it's blown up so large. A rep from the company called to talk about it. He sounded nice, said they can't get the dent out and basically they don't know if it was there before or not. The worker says it was there. He said he wants to be fair about it. DH is a conference all day today until late tonight, but I spoke to him briefly and he was pizzed. I told the rep from the company that I'd talk to DH tonight and call him tomorrow morning. Ugh!!! I need to figure out what to do. I'm thinking that we should just ask for them to take something off the cost of the refinish. But how much? The dent is so small and not so completely obvious. I really don't think anyone would notice it unless they were inspecting it. I'm not even sure I should ask for anything since I am not 100% sure it wasn't there before. Any advice??? I really hope all home improvement is not this stressful.

I am not sure about who would be responsible in your case, but you can get just a new door. Our fridge arrived with a little dent and a few days later they came with a new door and swapted out the old one

Thanks, ladies! I don't know why it didn't occur to me to find out how much a new door is and ask for that much as a credit. I think DH will want it replaced. I guess it will annoy me too. I would constantly notice that dent now.

Honestly, how do you know that the floor company made the dent? If its so small as you say, then its possible its been there all along, and you guys just didn't notice it. The floor company was doing their job and inspecting the premises before they did any work, and pointed the dent out to you. That doesn't mean they caused it.
IDK, i'd feel really weird about asking them to pay for anything, or give you a credit unless you know for sure they caused it - not just because they were the ones who happened to point it out to you. It could've been caused by anything. i wouldn't want to cause unnecessary trouble before these guys are coming in to do work in your house - unless you're 100% sure they caused it - which it sounds like you're not.

I was thinking the same things you are saying. I cropped the picture showing the fridge and can't see the dent. When DH got home we checked the video that we took of the house and there was no dent. And I'm pretty sure we would have been able to see it from the angle the video was taken. When they pointed the dent out to me they had already been sanding that area, so possibly the machine could have bumped it. We have had no other work done on the house at all, so I don't know of any other way this could have happened. I really don't want to get anyone in trouble, but this is a practically brand new fridge. I didn't say anything to the guy doing the work because I didn't want to make him angry right before he stained our floors and I wanted to go home & check the pics/video. Plus I am so non-confrontational. Part of me just wants to tell them to forget about it, but we're spending ALOT of money on these floors and, like I said, the fridge is practically brand new. The tags are still hanging in the freezer. It is a small dent, but now that I know it's there it's gonna bug me and DH is really angry about it.
