help - has anyone experienced this as milk coming in / drying up?

hey all,

so... for a number of reasons i've had to stop breastfeeding DD Chat Icon

as my milk was coming in, and now as it's drying up, i'm having really crazy symptoms - chills/sweats, HORRIBLE nausea, heartburn, mood swings...

it's not constant throughout the day, it sort of comes in episodes. i'm pretty sure it's a hormonal thing, not an infection or anything.

has anyone else experienced this? how long did it last?

tia...

This can also just be the drop on hormones after pregnancy......

Keep an eye out for signs of mastitis though while your drying up!

thank you Chat Icon

i guess this is just throwing me for a loop because after DS was born i felt fine. when my milk came in i had a very brief period (like a few hours) where i felt similarly to how i do now, but then it passed and i nursed with no issues.

but i guess there's no use in making comparisons - it really is true, every pregnancy is different.

this time it's just lingering and lingering... i just want to feel like myself again Chat Icon

I was BF a few weeks and just got bad at it so then pumped and didn't keep up with that either. When I was letting them dry up I'd pump like 2 times a day so I wasn't uncomfortable or anything and they slowly dries up. I was so happy the day I didn't have to wear a bra at night. As for the sweats and mood swings... I had the mood swings a little, but wasn't sure if it was PP. I had major night sweats, but heard that was hormones too and that took 3 to 4 weeks to stop. Are you still in the hospital? Have you met with a lactation consultant? I would bring this up to your obgyn.

i didn't have any symptoms with my milk drying up--i had some mood swings, but chalked them up to the post-pregnancy hormone shift. Chat Icon

That same thing happened to me for the first few weeks after I had DD. I actually thought I had the flu--I was feverish, sweating but shivering at the same time, and all I wanted to do was sleep!

Def. ask a lactation consultant about it, I've never heard of it lingering on like that Chat Icon

yup - this is me exactly. since i am only 1 week postpartum today, i'm thinking it's likely just my hormones adjusting...

luckily i actually feel somewhat better today. had sweats during the night and some chills this morning, but right now i'm actually feeling fine. hoping that this is on its way out...

thanks, everyone, for your input
