Hello! And Question on Lovenox..
Hello ladies -
Very cautiously posting on here - we found out we were pregnant right around Thanksgiving. We are beyond ecstatic, but still controlling it because it's so early on. Officially 5 weeks today, with an estimated due date of August 7th. Look forward to chatting with you all in the upcoming months. :)
Question - have any of you been directed to use Lovenox? I was told to start as of yesterday...1 shot a day due to a factor they found in earlier blood work for thrombolia. Doing research and have asked questions - but can't see if there's anything that's harmful in the medicine, anything to keep in mind. They told me to also take 1000mg of Calcium a day. I have to do additional blood work to get the details and see about it ...I guess I just want to hear other experiences around this and anything to keep in mind.
Thank you

Re: Hello! And Question on Lovenox..
Hi, congrats and welcome!!!!
I am on a high dose of Lovenox (actually twice a day now) due to Factor V Leiden. It's unpleasant but not the end of the world. The side effects are bruising at the injection site. You should alternated the sides of the injection to give the bruises time to heal and with tim you will figure out if it's better for you to do it closer to your stomach or the love handles. They might also put you on baby aspirin for extra bloodflow support, but not necessarily.
Once a month you will probably have to do bloodwork 4 hours after the injection to determine if your levels are good and nothing needs to be adjusted.
As for side effects to the baby, it's only suppose to help not harm. I haven't really heard of any fetal side effects.
Good luck and let me know if you need more info.

This is super helpful, thank you! I have to go for additional more detailed blood clotting work-up (I haven't done this yet), so strangely, I was worried if the Lovenox could hurt if somehow the additional blood work showed i didn't have any signs of blood clotting. To my knowledge, I've never had one, so just wanted to maek sure that it doesn't hurt things. Everything I read says that - so think I just need to see how additional results come in.
Side question - does it impact how you deliver in any way? Reading something around that also...I need to stop googling and ask my doctor when I see them next week

Re: Hello! And Question on Lovenox..
I had to take Lovenox for my first pregnancy and this one as well for the entire time. I know alot of ladies fall into this category and have to take Lovenox shots. I have once a day shots. THen at 35 weeks switch to heparin 2x day. THey do this so that if you go into labor the value you get is halved and if you need a C secion your fine My DD is fine and so is my neice. From what i know its fine for the baby as well

I never had clotting issues and I have had a few surgeries. I have one gene that is the indicator for that so they are cautious and put me on it

Re: Hello! And Question on Lovenox..
Congrats!! I was on Lovenox for my previous pregnancy and this one as well. I never had any side effects, maybe some bruising like PP said alternate sides each day. I am on one dose a day, and do not have to have any blood work to check my levels, but every doctor is different. As you get closer to the end of the pregnancy (around 36 weeks) your doc will switch you to Heparin which will be injected 2X a day. From what I remember the heparin is in your system for a shorter amount of time than the Lovenox.

Re: Hello! And Question on Lovenox..
Thank you! This makes me a lot better. Everything is very new to me, so everything makes me research more, look into more details and probably over-analyze.
My doctor also said they're being cautious, which is completely okay with me. I'd rather be over cautious then not.

Hello! And Question on Lovenox..
I was on Lovenox during the 3rd tri because I developed blood clots.
I was on a high does because I needed to get rid of the clots. I will need to be on it for any future pregnancies.
Its safe. The cell structure is not small enough to pass to the baby is how it was described to me.
you may have bruising...I was lucky and had minimal. But because of my dosage if I even nicked myself shaving or anything I def bleed.

Hello! And Question on Lovenox..
I am on Lovenox, was upped to twice a day around 10 weeks. I have no side effects. The needle hurts more than some of my other injections, but not a big deal. Fm if you have questions.

Re: Hello! And Question on Lovenox..
CONGRATS! I took Lovenox with my DD and am currently taking it now. From my research, it's very safe. No problems.
No problems. Sometimes it can burn going in and bruise, but you will get the hang of it and figure out what spots are good for you. With my DD, my love handles were good, but now I do it on my stomach and I don't usually bruise. Just make sure to alternate sides. Don't inject in the same spot twice.

The last month, you will switch to Heparin (twice a day). Heparin has a shorter cell life (I think that's what it's called)- it only lasts 12 hours, so I think that's better when you're closer to going into labor. Other than that, it's fine

Thanks so much, this is good to know. I've been using love handles also and alternating. So far no bruising, but it's still early on

Re: Hello! And Question on Lovenox..
I am on 40mg Lovenox 1/day for a protein S deficiency. I've been on it for all of my pregnancies, and never had an issue except for some bruising here and there. Sometime it burns a little when I inject it.

Hello! And Question on Lovenox..
I was on Lovenox during the beginning of my pregnancy. I honestly would get a second opinion to make sure that you NEED to be on it. If you NEED it then by all means, stay on it. I was told that it does not pass through the placenta and it is safe for the baby. I was on it and found out that Kofinas put me on it when I really didn't have clotting issues. Who would want to be on anything unless they needed to. Wishing you the best of everything.

Re: Hello! And Question on Lovenox..
I've been on it since I was 4 wks pregnant and will be on it the entire pregnancy and a few weeks postpartum. It's definitely not fun, especially since my left side tends to bruise more easily and my stomach is getting more firm and there's less squishy areas to squeeze. But like the other ladies have mentioned, there's no harm to the baby. Congrats again!

Hello! And Question on Lovenox..
I've used Lovenox during all my pregnancies. Injecting it is a pain, but not that big of a deal. No harm to the baby, my kids are all just fine.
