Heartworm and Frontline?

My Vet game me a supply for the summer and I just gave Bella her last dose that I had.

Do you still give it to them in Sept or July is the last month??

Re: Heartworm and Frontline?

We always gave our dogs hearworm all year so we will continue to do that now.

As for the frontline - they didn't have that back in the day, but I'm guessing we'll probably stop after the first frost.

Re: Heartworm and Frontline?

My vet feels dogs should really be taking it year round. My neighbor's bulldog got heartworm b/c he didn't use it yearround, and the reality is lately the weather is unpredictable.

Re: Heartworm and Frontline?

I was under the impression that the heartworm meds should be year round. I've heard that Frontline can be used seasonally, but I use it year round because we live in a warm climate. NY isn't THAT cold come September yet, so if I were you I'd probably want to continue it a month or two longer just to be safe.

Re: Heartworm and Frontline?

I read that ticks never really go dormant, so it's best to use the frontline year-round. Especially if you live in heavily wooded areas.
