health ins for baby

well i just called my ins company and they said that the baby is only covered for 96hrs and then the baby will have to be added to its ins company. Well with dh being out of work and not having enough money for the family plan at my job which is $700 every two weeks and a ded for family of $4,000 I wont have any money for the baby or food or other things. ei rent, food, bills.
Im freaking out here. I called over to family health plus and they told me that the baby will have to be born before the 20th for her to be elig as the 1st of may. if after i will have to wait until June 1st and i dont have that kind of money.

Wht do i do??? im freaking out here..........

holy crap - I would be freaking out too -- didn't realize family ins could be so expensive! Chat Icon

I don't have any advice, but keep calling the Family Health Plus people -- they're must be a solution that doesn't depend on her bday, right?

Re: health ins for baby

I'd call child health plus again, and ask them what their suggestion is. It might be retroactive, but they just can't get her into the system until the next month.

ITA ! And I would call your ins. company again b/c I thought they were liable for the 1st month ! That was what happened with my dd's.

Re: health ins for baby

i callled my ins plan again and they said that you have 30d to get the baby on your plan, if you are going else where then you only have 96h. After that then you are responsiable for the out of pocket for no ins.

I also called child health and they told me they cant back date cause i dont qaulify for medicaid. If i did then they can go back to the birth date.

Re: health ins for baby

When we had DD#1 I had to add her on to my DH's insurance for one month and pay the high premium and then get her on Child Health Plus the next month. She was born on Jan 24th and had Child Health Plus starting on March 1st. It was really expensive for us to pay for the one month of ins, but totally worth it to have her covered. Yes their rule is you have to have their application in by the 20th of the month to get ins for the next month.

They also would not backdate our coverage either. Is it possible to pay for one month of family ins and then drop it b/c it's too expensive. That was the reason we stated on our application to Child Health Plus.

Re: health ins for baby

DS was born on July 26th so I had to add him to my health insurance for the month of aug - $400 and then he had CHP starting in September. So expensive especially with my $500 copay for delivery and unpaid maternity leave!!

Sorry I am of no helpChat Icon Chat Icon

can you check with your hr if that is the only health plan available? our company had a cheaper health plan option if you took a larger deductible
