health ins for baby
well i just called my ins company and they said that the baby is only covered for 96hrs and then the baby will have to be added to its ins company. Well with dh being out of work and not having enough money for the family plan at my job which is $700 every two weeks and a ded for family of $4,000 I wont have any money for the baby or food or other things. ei rent, food, bills. Im freaking out here. I called over to family health plus and they told me that the baby will have to be born before the 20th for her to be elig as the 1st of may. if after i will have to wait until June 1st and i dont have that kind of money.
Wht do i do??? im freaking out here..........

Re: health ins for baby
check again with your insurance company, many give you 30 days to add the baby
that it all works out!!
(I feel your pain about your part of the insurance. Right now, I pay 235 for myself and DH every 2 weeks. Once we add the baby, it will be nearly 400 every 2 weeks )

Re: health ins for baby
96 hours seems like a very short period of time. Most insurances cover the baby for at least 30 days. I would call again and double check.

I'm surprised your insurance will go up. A lot of the time it is individual or a family plan. Once your husband is added it is a family plan and it doesn't matter how many children you have, it stays the same

My insurance company gives you 30 days.
Your family plan is steep, ours is close to $325 26 times a year.

it depends, our insurance is for my husband and spouse if we had our son on our insurance it would be family plan and almost $50 more... thats why our son is on health plus right now... I have to find out what happens when this child is born cause I would rather add him/her to health plus as well....

exactly, right now I have myself + spouse. once the baby it born, its myself+family which goes up I hate working for a smaller, private company for this reason. DH might be offered a job with the state in which case we would take that insurance - better insurance for MUCH less out of pocket

prices of insurance are getting ridiculous, my husband's premium is going up to $100.00 per week! I mean, come on!

Re: health ins for baby
By law the insurance company has to give you 30 days to add the baby, however once the baby leaves the hospital and goes to pedi it's up to your Dr. on whether or not they will charge or bill for the services.

Check again. I was told 30 days. We are buying Miss Bean her own ins because she doesn't qualify for my subsidized COBRA.

Re: health ins for baby
Find out w/ Health Plus if the bills are paid retroactively so it won't matter that ur lo won't be covered until the next month. I am pretty sure that's how it works. hth

For me that is for after the first child- and I *think* that is how most insurance policies go. So, I cost x, adding DH costs more, adding child 1 costs more, and then the cost stays the same for child 2, 3, etc. I don't know if there's a limit though- and don't wanna find out, lol!

Re: health ins for baby
I would just wait till Family Health plus kicked in. You baby will be covered 96 hours. If something is wrong then you have 30days to add her/him. If not then just wait it out. My parents didnt have insurance when I was born. If you have to see the Ped you can tell them you dont have nsurance yet. Pay out of pocket. The Ped bill cant be very high. They dont do any vaccines till 1 month anyway

I wouldn't do this. What if baby has to be hospitalized (god forbid) and then you are looking at thousands of dollars (and if she has a c-section or the baby has to be kept longer, that is longer than 96 hours right there)
Plus, its more than one month. She is due April 29th, baby won't be covered until June 1.

Re: health ins for baby
I would google some insurance companies and call for quotes. That is what we did. Miss Bean will have a 120 dollar premium per month-3K deductible for surgery, well visits and shots covered, RX goes towards the deductible-We are in FL, so every state is different. I agree with Kate, you want to make sure you get insurance. We have to call when we get home from the hospital and they will add her that day.
