Heading to the attny today
To possible get Freddy on some sort of medicaid services. He really needs it. Wish me some luck today in hopes we can get the ball rolling without making him bankrupt.

So many of my family has needed this and had to really push to get it through

thanks we are paying an attny for this so hopefully he can make it happen.
I don't care if it costs some money now so he can get what he needs. Mostly, he needs some more inpatient care.

the attny was great. He actually complimented me on getting Freddy's SSD approved without an attny. Wow!
I think he wants to hire me...
he is going to establish a Special Needs Trust, a new POA and a new Health Care Proxy for us. He's even going to have one of his paralegals come to the house to notarize everything for Fred.
The social worker will get the app completed and sent to Medicaid. Good start. He should be approved if everything is set up right. He has no assets so it shouldn't be a problem. This will give Fred so much more that ne really needs.
He's still so depressed. I wish he could set some goals for himself..he would have something to work towards.

Hopefully, Fred will see this and maybe start to come out of his depression. Does he see how hard you and your family are working for him?

What exactly is a "special needs trust"?
As for Medicaid, can he get approved right away? I thought there was a 2 yr waiting period? I hope I'm wrong, because I know Fred needs it ASAP.

A SNT is a trust that is set up on behalf of the disabled person that their assets and income can go into. It's administered by a trustee (dad and me) to pay for his non medical and medical expenses not covered by his health plan. You have to keep careful records of what you buy with the money but this trust will have to be established before medicaid can approve him. The trust and the POA have to be set up first which will take a few weeks and then the app will go in. After that it's just a waiting game.

AHHH OK, thanks for explaining.
You know I wish you the best of luck, I hope it all works out for Fred and he can received more in patient therapy soon

just found out the prosthesis company takes medicaid as secondary coverage. This will be very good because when he gets his new leg his co-insurance of 20% will go away. That will be $4000!
