HCG Level

Hi All! I have a 3 year old and I had a miscarriage on May 4th 2012. Last week I took a pregnancy test and it came out positive! My last period was June 28th. I got blood work done on Friday. My doctor called me this morning saying that my levels are low but it can just be really early, it was 43.2. Tomorrow I go back. This doesn't make sense as I would be almost 5 weeks. Has anyone seen this before?

with an HCG that low, I would think you are more in the 12/13DPO range.

My first HCG was 69 and that was at 13DPO so I was just shy of 4 weeks.

A beta of 43 could mean that you Oed much later and are earlier along than you expected. The only way to know for sure is to go back tomorrow and see if it doubles.

Good luck! Chat Icon

Oh thank you! My periods are irregular. I tested on July 29th and it came out negative, but on Thursday (8.2) it came out positive. I just hope my levels go up

i will tell you what countless others told me...DO NOT WORRY ABOUT THE HCG NUMBERS!!!! my first beta was only a 25. a 25!!!! when other girls were posting that their first beta's were already well above the 100 mark! i was sure that the pregnancy wouldn't take. I was about 13/14 days past ovulation at that time. At my second beta, it had doubled to a 69 and at my third beta it had doubled to 119. It wasn't until i went back until 1½ weeks later when I went in for a sono and more bloodwork that my numbers had risen to well over 2K.
Don't stress the numbers! I'm sure they will double and your little bean will be fine!!!!

if this is the case, makes perfect sense and your numbers are probably right! you are likely right around 4 weeks. Most important thing is that your number doubles from first blood test to the second. Chat Icon

good luck!

Re: HCG Level

Moonmist09 - Thank you so much! It is so crazy how one person it can be one thing and the next another. I am not going to stress it. Tomorrow just can't come fast enough! I am praying that it comes up!

Maymama - My period is NEVER 28 days.... it is about 30-35 (it depends) On July 29th i was 32 days since my last period and that is why I tested but it came out negative.

Also, I forgot to say that starting on Monday (July 30th) i had brown/pink discharge ONLY when i wipe. This lasted until this past Satuday. It was really light, and one minute there the next not. So not sure if this has to do with anyone.

THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!

Everyone's beta levels start low (since the obviously start at 0) but most blood tests aren't done super early so you hear other people having low numbers. All that matters is it doubles in the next 48 hours.

Re: HCG Level - Update

I called yesterday asking what my hcg level was on Friday and the secretary said 43.2. This morning I went for more bloodwork and my doctor left me a message saying that my hcg level is what he expected and he is more concerned about my progesterone level that he should get tomm. He said that my hcg level is 31.8 and with the other results he will have a better answer. He said the results on Friday that my progesterone was good. If the secretary is right...then my levels went down. Anyone experience this??? Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: HCG Level

He called me at home last night and said that it doesn't look promising. He said that he is still waiting for my progesterone numbers today. He said that on Friday my progesterone was really good. I am so sick and sad now. I just miscarried on may 4th. I can't go through this again......

To be honest with you, though, if your hcg numbers are decreasing, it doesn't really matter what your progesterone numbers are.

Re: HCG Level

Thank you everyone. I didn't even ask him what my levels were on Friday. I called the secretary and those are the numbers she gave me.

I am so sad... my heart is breaking. It took me almost 2 months to get my period the last time. I hope it comes fast this time around so I can start trying again. I am not sure why he wants to know the progestrone level at this point...........
