Have you ever thrown a party for a parent?
I need some ideas - my mom is turning 60 and I wanted to do something special for her. She had a really difficult year - and I want to mark this milestone. I thought a party might be nice, but I'm not sure if people do that for a 60th.
I was thinking about having a lunch set up at a restaurant for about 30 people or so. Do people throw parties for their parents?

Absolutely people throw parties for thier parents. My parents are going to a party that thier friends son is throwing for him. I would throw my parents a surprise 60th party.
I think lunch at a rest. is a great idea. You should make it a surprise.

Re: Have you ever thrown a party for a parent?
My sister and I threw a (not) surprise party for my moms 50th a few years ago. It wasnt a surprise cause shes a huge planner. But all the little touches were surprises. I invited all her friends and our family, it was great. I even made M&M (her favorite) favors, decorated in her favorite color, made invitations, etc. Why not throw it for your parents? I had a lot of fun doing something for her.

Re: Have you ever thrown a party for a parent?
My sister & I made two parties for my mother. Her 60th birthday was dinner on one of those dinner cruise yachts with about 20 people. For her 65th, we surprised her in Florida and hosted a dinner for 10.
A lunch sounds really nice!! I went to one at the George Washington Manor that was just lovely! They have private rooms that accomodate smaller groups.

oooh great!
Do you guys have recommendations for restaurants?
Most of the guests will be from Suffolk - so that would be best.

My sisters and I threw a surprise 50th b-day for our parents. We did a huge brunch at Capatin Bill's. It was awesome. The food was great.

Re: Have you ever thrown a party for a parent?
yes, I have I have thrown 60th Birthday parties for both my parents-- My father's was at Watercolors at the Huntington Hilton-brunch buffet, My mother's at Paddy McGee's in Island Park again for their Brunch Buffet... ( both surprise)
I am now in the midst of planning my parents 40th anniversary party.. We are having it at Pomodorino in Huntington but this time it is not a surprise...
On all 3 of these occasions, my brother also gave the parties but since he is in Houston, I do all the planning...
