Have you ever taken off the prelit lights from your tree?
Mine are white and a strand isn't working.
I want colored anyway.
it seems like it is going to be a task.

yes...it was torture but worth it.
our burned out after 2 years...so ridiculous. we had someone come and watch my son while DH and i cut them off strand by strand. it took hours to unwind everything. it looked so beautiful when it was prelit, but still looks nice now with our own lights.
it's just crazy that it burned out so fast.

My brother attempted this last year. After a few hours, the tree went in the garbage and he bought another.

Yep. We did.
5.5 hours sounds about right. It was a few years ago so I don't remember, but we had to do it over a few days because it would get tedious and tiring.
