has this happened to anyone--earring back became embedded in DD's ear
DD is 2.5 and has had earrings since she was four months with no problems. We got her cute Mickey mouse earrings from kohls that had the regular back and a rubber piece after that. I put both backs on her about three weeks ago. I always feel if they are loose, which they werent, and she never complained.
Today I wanted to clean them and when I took off the rubber piece I saw the ENTIRE back was in her ear.  I got it out and it was bleeding slightly and raw looking. I used hydrogen peroxide and neosporin and will keep all earrings out for a few days. It was torture getting them out and she was so upset.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? I wasn't going to bring her to the ped unless it gets infected. How long until the holes would close up? Oh, and I cleaned the earrings before I put them in.
Has this ever happened to anyone? DH and i feel so badly. She's acting fine and not complaining so that's good. I just am so mad at myself that I didn't check them sooner.

Don't beat yourself up! I have had this happen to me as an adult if I wear studs too tightly. My ears are very sensitive to earrings and they stay healthier if I wear hoops. Is that an option for you?
If you apply neosporin for a few days she will be as good as new.

This happened to me when I was younger but my parents couldn't get the back out of my ear. I had to go to the ped where they numbed my ear and used these scary looking tweezer scissor combo thing to remove it. I had to let my earing holes close up and then get them re-pierced a few years later. I was in second grade when it happened which is why I can remember it.

This happened to me when I was about 9. My mom had to bring me to the ped to have it removed. Then they gave me special earrings with a tiny hole in the middle and my mom had to inject medicine with a tiny.needle. I would definitely take her to the ped.

This happened to me as a child. I think it became infected and they told my mom to not take it out. Well it closed up around the stud in the front. I had to go to the ped and then the ER I think so they could get it out. It eventually closed up and I got my ears peirced again when I was a teenager.

peroxide and cream is all you can do. My DD had to have her's taken out by a ped surgeon and that was all we were told to do afterwards. It happens alot, be glad you were able to get them out. We now only use the big huge plastic backed earings and never sleep with them because of this.

That happened to DD when she got her ears pierced last year. She FREAKED when we were taking them out and refused to let me put any more earrings in. We let the holes close on their own.

This happened to me when I was a kid. I had to see a doctor to remove the backings and, one was so lodged in that the doctor's left it there! I had to let my holes close and then re pierce my ears several months later

this happened to my DD. I switched to hoops immediately after, with regular cleanings and bacitracin. Never a problem again.

When we got DDs ears pierced my ped told me this happens A LOT. I wouldn't beat yourself up over it.

Thank you everyone. they seem to be healing fine. I am going to give it a few more days then put some simple studs in it. For those who use hoops, do your daughters pull at them? The front of her ears look fine thank goodness.

i think she pulled at the other bc she was allergic to the metals and were itchy. She never pulls at her lever back, gold ones.
