Has this ever happened to your DC? Possible bug bite? *With picture*

I noticed this at around 3pm and when I called the ped and explained it to him, he said it sounded like a bug bite. He said to just put hydrocordisone cream and a cold compress on it.

Has this happened to anyone's DC? What helped it go down? My sister is telling me to go to PM Peds.

TIA!

I've never seen it, but I always err on the side of caution -I'd go to PM peds if I were you. I'm sure its fine, but I'd go for peace of mind Good luckChat Icon

I used to have this happen to me when i was little! I had bad reactions to bug bites..they got better as i got older but i specifically remember that part of my ear getting really swollen.

I wouldn't be going to the doctor for that, i'd just put the cream on it and even give a small dose of benadryl...i'm sure it'll be gone soon!

Wanted to add..the specific reason i'd pass on a doctor visit is because they aren't going to do anything different than what they're telling you over the phone. It looks just like a bug bite reaction.

Same thing happened to DS a few weeks ago in that exact spot. It went away after 3-4 days (I did not put anything on it or use bendryl though).

Yes happens to my dd. I took her to pm ped a few weeks ago when she got bite on her arm and it swelled and was hard to the the touch. They said she is highly allergic to whatever bit her. They gave her meds and outlined it with a pen so my ped could look at it the following day. My ped said the same thing the next day. She said to make sure I use bug spray every time she is outdoors.

My DS has bad reactions to mosquito bites, and has had this happen to his ear before. I was told to give him benadryl and put hydrocortisone cream on it. He's also gotten them on his eyebrow where his whole eye swelled up - he needed prescription medicine for that one. The swelling should gradually go down and be gone in a few days.

Everyone was freaking me out so much, but his ped didn't seem concerned. I'm going to keep an eye on it.

This happened to my daughter on her eye. It swelled so bad her eye almost swelled shut. We iced it used benadryl and put cortisone cream on it. It took about 3 days to go down.

The bugs this year are so bad. Dd usually swells very bad to a bite. Similar to what you posted. I actually took her to the dr last week for one on her leg that was the size of a golf ball.

Last night she got a huge one on her thigh.
These poor kids!

Yes, last year DS had one that made his ear so swollen it started oozing, and the ear got so distorted. After 1 day! The dr. gave him a steroid and antibiotic, and swelling went down significantly but it took about a week to look normal. It was a biting fly that got him.

DS and I both get reactions like this to bug bites and he has gotten them on his ear just like that. We have an allergist for his egg allergy and he specifically added to DS's school record that they can give him Benadryl if a bite gets swollen like this. We both got bitten up on Fire Island last week. We do Benadryl only overnight when he has this. School usually waits to see if I want it.

My DS has 3 huge bites on him right now.
One on his back, one on his forehead and one on his arm.
I'm thinking he's allergic because this happened a few weekends ago while we were away and I freaked out.
The bumps went down within a few days.
I'm definitley keeping my eye on these.
The bugs are bad this year!
I'm going to have to spray him everytime he walks out the door.

We went to Fire Island the other day... I wonder if that's where he got bit!! I was eaten alive there!

My son had it. Looked exactly the same! I had taken him in to see the pediatrician and while they didn't see any kind of "puncture" wound on his ear, they said it was likely a bug bite. I gave him Benadryl and after a few doses it started to get better.

My daughter's eye is swollen shut right now due to a mosquito bite near her eybrow. She is highly allergic to mosquito bites. They swell and take weeks to resolve. She got bit on her ear once and it swelled like that.

Just be careful, if it's still as swollen and hot in another day or so, take to dr to rule out cellulitis.
