Has the croup...
Sounds like Julian has croup... Can you recommend anything to help him get through the 2-5 days it takes to get over this??
He has the humidifier going nonstop.
Anything else?

Has the croup...
My kids always get it and we usually have to go to ped for a steroid.. Only thing that helps us Bc the usual things don't help for them. Make sure he drinks a lot! Hope he feels better soon!

My daughter gets it every single time she gets a cold. Best thing we do is keep her calm. The more she gets upset the worse the fit gets and like clockwork, she throws up. Humidifier turned way up high, steamy bathroom, or cold outside air. Elevate head. In our case, if I walk around with her, take her mind off of it, shes able to fall back to asleep (only occurs at night for her). I tried the steroids the very first time she was diagnosed with it and they made her act crazy and feel very very weird so I avoid them at all costs.

Re: Has the croup...
Hot steam and cold air help. I usually just run hot water in the bathroom , close door and let it get steamy. We then sit in there for 15 minutes. We do this several times a day. The other thing is lettinghim breath in cold air. If it's too cold outside, I open my freezer and let him stay there for a few minutes. My freezer is on the bottom, so perfect height.

Hot steam from the shower. My ds has it every time he gets a cold. 99% of the time it goes away without the steroids

Re: Has the croup...
steam helps tremendously & I always give ibuprofen to help with inflammation of the airway. Both of my dds always need steroids. I suggest recording the cough if you plan on going to the dr. because they may not do it while they are there.

Re: Has the croup...
DS1 used to get this fairly frequently, but it was over as quickly as it arrived. When he had some difficulty breathing, I'd run hot water in the bathtub and get the bathroom really steamy. We'd sit in the bathroom for a while. Then, I'd take him into the cool fresh air for a few minutes. The steam and then the cold helps to open up the airways. I hope he feels better soon.

Re: Has the croup...
Def go to the ped. Croup can be much worse in younger kids. He may need steroids. Mine nearly needed to go to the hospital.

Re: Has the croup...
We did steam showers and cold air. Also, my ped said to give her an ice pop before bed.

Re: Has the croup...
My DS just got this today. The steroids helped almost immediately! But I used to sit by an open window with my older one!

Re: Has the croup...
My DS gets it a lot also. It stinks. I find steam in the shower helps. I also find that the steroid sort of helps. Otherwise, it's just suffering it out.

Re: Has the croup...
We went first thing yesterday morning to the ped. She was wonderful (our regular ped's on call doc)... She gave him a steroid shot which, she said, will not hype him up the way the oral one would. She was spot on! He's 100% better and slept great last night.
