We had our plasma installed when we got it. It was 4 years ago and it cost $300. But, I have to tell you it's really not that hard to do. I would do it yourself, seriously. We're not that handy but once we saw them do it we were like "We could have done that!" We just moved and we're definitely going to install it ourselves this time. Congrats on the TV!!

Nice model choice.
I have somebody that I may use that I found on Craigslist. He is charging me $125 to mount a plasma in the bedroom.
And I am also paying another $175 to mount a different plasma in my living room against brick.

pretty much...but it depends where you want to place it. we eventually plan on mounting an LCD above the fireplace which would require drilling through brick. my father's eyes lit up as something he'd be willing to tackle, but we may want someone else to do it instead   - i think we got quoted $100/hour from our local place, thing is i have NO idea how long it would take!

Yup... $125 flat rate. Thats to mount onto a normal wall (like sheetrock). It also includes fishing wires through the wall to give it a "clean" look.
This is someone I found on craigslist. I haven't actually used him yet... cause I am not doing this for a few more weeks.
It really isn't that hard to mount one of these. If you are going into brick it gets more difficult. But a normal wall... its not that hard.
I can post a good how-to that I found online about this. Let me see if I can find it.

Here is a little how-to on how one guy mounted his plasma.
I don't think you need to cut that big of a hole in your wall and not use the big piece of plywood if you mount the plasma directly to the studs.
But this will give you a general idea. I really like the idea of the recessed power supply

we had our people come from PC richards. It was REALLY expensive. I think we were taken on that part of the deal based on the costs you are posting. (we paid 400) but they did hang it over our fire place. It took all of 45 minutes since we had drywall.

Well it all depends on how much "protection" you want. Obviously PC Richards techs are insured. You pay a premium for that.
The guy I am using is not insured since he just does this stuff as a side job.
But the way I look at it... he would do a better job than at least I would so i'll deal.
Most likely... I will probably be doing the install with him (at least the lifting part).

It really isn't that hard to mount one of these. If you are going into brick it gets more difficult. But a normal wall... its not that hard.
that's the thing, we will be dealing with brick - my dad claims he can mount it for us on the brick however i am a little skeptical...
if it was a another wall i wouldn't be as freaked, however i believe most of our walls in our house are made with lathe and plaster which opens up another can of worms

My DH and his brother installed our plasma. We have a 42" and it took them about 2 hours. We mounted it to our entertainment center. It is a a flat wood panel that you mount the tv to so that is what we did.

Why would you want to cut holes in the walls? What happens when you move and take the TV with you? The buyers will certainly expect you to repair the wall.
My DH is a professional sign hanger by trade...he says that if people are giving out flat quotes, something is not right, in that each job will be different depending on the situation. He also said that if you want to take a picture of the area you want the TV hung up, and email it to me...he can give you an estimate based on time and materials to do the job for you.

it took less then 45 mins to install our plamsa
my dad and i did it...its rather easy
we even hid all the wires though the wall and installed an outlet for the tv behind the unit.
i don't see the need to pay alot of money to screw in a couple of screws....

I just wanted to bump this thread.
I finally got both of my plasmas mounted today. I used the guy I said I was going to use from Craigslist. He has a home audo entertainment business he does on the side.
He showed up with a helper... and he mounted the plasma in my living room against the brick wall where the fireplace is. The other plasma he mounted in my bedroom.
$125 flat rate for basic install in the bedroom (he fished the wires through the wall)... and $175 for the brick install. $300 total.
I have to take pictures of this. It looks so kicka$$. Especially the one in the bedroom... it looks like something you will see on "MTV Cribs" or whatever you call it.
Got plenty of "WAF" as well. 
ETA: It only took them three hours to do all the work (both plasmas)

WAF is called "Wife Approval Factor" and is a term commonly thrown around on techie audio forums (full of men).
Its always good to get plenty of "WAF".
What size plasma you looking for? Don't get anything smaller than 42. I would go either 42... or if you want BIG... get what I have... 50.
How much you looking to spend? I can definitely recommend some good products if you give me a price range.

Basic 42" no frills plasma will run around $1500... a nice 50" can go for $3000-3500.

Ok here are some pics of my install.
Here is my original 50" in my living room. I had my installer mount it right to the Levit brick.
Since my living room is a wide 15x12... i spent a little more for this mount. I got one that telescopes... pulls out... and can be tilted left and right so people sitting on the side of the room can see it better.
Here is a shot of it tilted to the side.
Here is the other newer plasma in my bedroom. This is a 50" as well... mounted right to the studs in the wall with the wires fished behind the wall.
Just to get an idea on how big this plasma really is... look at the size of the screen in comparison to the cable box.

Yeah its the ambilight. You can select which color you want the ambilight to glow. They have choices like Blue, Red, Soft White, Warm White, etc. Or you can set it so it automatically changes colors according to whats on the screen. So if they are showing a picture of a large park with green grass... the ambilight will probably turn green.
It doesn't look as good in the light as it does in the dark.... like this (in my old apartment).

Why would you say that? We have a 37" in the bedroom and it's great.
Also, how big is your bedroom?? 50" TV seems really big for a bedroom.
