has anyone ever had a Cortizone shot...preferably to ease heel pain associated with plantar fascitis (sp)?

My foot, specifically my heel has been horrible for about a week now. I went to the foot dr and he told me its my plantar fascitis acting up and spreading to my heel. Aside from the 200 rules he gave me to follow, he gave me a cortizone shot.. My foot is now in worse pain...the entire thing is all cramped up like I have a charlie horse in my foot that I can't get rid of. I can't curl my toes without seeing stars...

Has this happened to anyone? Is there anything I can do about it? I currently have my foot elevated and its a bit better, but not completely...

Any help on how to relieve this cramping would be greatly appreciated!!

My mom got that shot.
She said it felt horrible like that afterwards but in a day or so it felt so much better than it had been before.

You can try putting a soda can in the fridge to make it cold then putting it on the floor and rolling your foot back and forth over it to help ease that cramping.

Hope it feels better soon!

yeap it was the worst pain I ever felt!!! Freeze water bottles and roll your foot over them. That helped. It will be better in a day or two. It def worked though!!!

Ok, so I got the shot on Tuesday and my foot still hurts! The cramping is gone, but the actual cortizone didn't do much for me. My heel is so sore I still can't put it down! Chat Icon I go back to him on Wednesday, hopefully he can give me SOMETHING for the pain...

And I'm TOTALLY over wearing sneakers!

I had it in my foot but not in my heel. It is painful, no doubt. I just stayed off of it for a day & then was better the next day.

Mine was to calm down a nerve that was being strangled by scar tissue.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Did he gave you a foot brace for night time?

Ditto. My husband just had this - and right before we went to Disney, so he knew he had major walking to do.

The Doctor gave him a foot brace that he had to wear all the time, except at night. And only sneakers - a good pair of sneakers - not some cheapies. His foot was better inside of a week. No cortisone shot needed.

Personally, I feel like the cortisone shot is given WAY too much. It is not a cure all, and in some cases can make matters worse. It often just masks the problem for a certain amount of time.

I do have a night brace that my orthopedist gave me when I first went for the problem, and I wore it a few nights but it only made my foot hurt more in the morning. It is also to big and doesn't fit right, so it was very uncomfortable.

I go back to the foot dr on Wednesday, and I think he's going to give me a smaller one to try.

I've been wearing sneakers for a week now.. and it's getting old FAST! My foot is def better, not 100%.. the pain comes and goes, but it's def better than it was when I first went to see him.
