Has anyone ever...
Fed their baby in a car while it was in motion?
We are going away this weekend to Lancaster which is a 3 -3 1/2 hour drive and I was telling one of my cousins about where we were going this weekend. She was like "oh so you will have to feed the baby in the car while your husband is driving". I was like "ummm no not while we are driving, we can pull over or stop at a reststop but not while the car is in motion".
She said she did it all the time with her kids because stopping and pulling over was a waste of time for her. Has anyone ever done it though it? I told her it sounded kind of weird.
What do you ladies think?

Feeding a bottle - yes
Feeding cereal or fruits - not yet - but I don't think it would be a big deal

Re: Has anyone ever...
I've done it once, coming back from DC... Only because we had to get home because DH had to get to work and the traffic was horrendous... I thought he would spit the whole thing up because he spits up without motion... but he was actually fine...

Yeah but if you get caught you will get in trouble no? I mean after all the child is not strapped into her seat which they should be since it's the law.

Re: Has anyone ever...
Are you talking about Bottle feeding or nursing...
When we took michael for his first real big road trip to Va and then SC, he was alittle over 5 months and we went at night, and I would stop and nurse him, but only stopped like 2x or less.
Our last trip to VA he was alittle over a Year old and I actually nursed him while car was in motion, LUCKILY he was still in his infant seat Rear facing, and my Big Boobs finally came in handy, I just had to lean forward and it worked like a charm.
When he was little he sleep more in the car so didn't have to worry so much.
best of luck whatever you do

huh? Why would you take the baby out of the car seat to feed him? I travel to NY almost every weekend with DH and Alex, and I sit in the back with her and if she gets hungry I give her snacks or give her a bottle while the car is in motion, while she's still strapped in her car seat.

If you nurse - yes you would have to take him out. Otherwise there is NO reason for you to take him out.

Re: Has anyone ever...
I have done this with DS before. The only time I take him out of the carseat is to burp him and then I put him right back in the seat but DH will pull over so I can do that.

Re: Has anyone ever...
BFing no, but bottle feeding yes. Sometimes I'll sit in the back and hold the bottle for him. Other times like when it's just the two of us in the car I'll prop the bottle. One time I even fed him some baby food. I would NEVER even think of taking a baby out of a car seat in a moving car!

Re: Has anyone ever...
I have- both bottle and breastfeeding. I have NEVER taken Jordana out of the car seat. To breastfeed her I just contort myself around her so she can eat in her seat. Not the safest for me, but she is fine. Bottle feeding- definitely.

Re: Has anyone ever...
Well about the BFing, I never thought I would do it but he was alittle Irate and when I tryed it worked, Michael was also older then(over a year)so it really wasnt that bad, it was the first time I was happy to have big boobs. I never would take him out of the carseat either, too dangerous.
best of luck, I guess we all do what we have to, I can imagine it might have been different if it was light out and someone saw me, but it worked well, and I would definintely do again in future when I have more babies.
good luck

Re: Has anyone ever...
Why would you need to take him out of the seat? If your sitting in the back next to him, you can feed him whatever. Bottle, food, snacks... I've done it. I would never take them out of the seat in a moving car! I've also learned to prop up the bottle when I have to. A nice blanket does the trick really well.
On our trip home form CT this summer, DH wouldn't stop, and since we have 2 kids and 2 car seats, there is no room for me in the back. So I fed Lauren her bottle from the front seat (she is behind me in the passenger side) and I literally contorted my body to hold the bottle for her.

Re: Has anyone ever...
I have given Jenna a bottle in the car plently of times when she was a baby-esp if were out late with her-i'd put on her pjs and feed her a bedtime bottle on the way home so I could put her right in the crib to go to sleep-never a problem.
