Hamptons question
When people say they are going to the Hamptons does that usually mean East Hampton? I want to drive out there tomorrow and I'm not sure which town has the best main street with little shops etc. Also, are most of the shops and restaurants closed on Mondays?

Re: Hamptons question
Hamptons means anywhere from West Hampton to East Hampton and actually Montauk can almost be considered a Hampton because it's just an area.
And no, in the summer everything is open on Mondays.
Best town for shops... they all have their own little shops so I can't really choose. Start in West Hampton and keep going east.

Re: Hamptons question
I liked East Hampton for this purpose. This is where we ate when we went.

We got great burgers here if you go there...seems like they are open on Monday. I would think most places are open on Monday for sure.
Also, I see you have a dog. There is a cute pet stuff store (toys, leashes, clothes, etc) behind Main St, that you enter from the municipal lot. Just make sure to go to the shops behind Main st, not just on Main st.

Re: Hamptons question
East Hampton and Southampton have the best shops and restaurants, but they are in polar opposite directions. I usually end up in East Hampton just because that's where my mom lives, but I really do love Southampton too.

Re: Hamptons question
All towns are nice to walk around.. Southampton is better during the day because most stores aren't open as late as the stores in Sag Harbor or East Hampton.. I LOVE Sag Harbor, a nice walk out around the wharf is nice. I live in Southampton so I'm a little partial to it

Re: Hamptons question
I am very bias, as I grew up in Sag Harbor, but I love Sag Harbor Main Street! It just has such a magical charm about it! Everything will be open...get dinner at Il Capuccino if you can!!

Re: Hamptons question
I think it's funny that this was switched to the travel board! Well, I guess that makes sense since I felt like I was on a mini vacation in Southampton. We walked around the shops, had lunch at 75 Main, and bought some nice cheese and a baguette. Thanks everyone!

ITA! Local here too....East Hampton has lots of ritzy shops...Ralph Lauren/Polo...Elli Tahari...Scoop...J Crew Beach, just to name a few.
Southampton has a lot of shopping too
Sag Harbor has one main street with TONS of charm Just not as much shopping.
But if you stay on 27, you can hit them all!

Me tooo
Sag Harbor hands down is the best to walk around and you might actually be able to afford stuff in some of the shops. East Hampton and Southampton have a ton more shops, but most (if not all) are high end. Plus Sag Harbor has the waterfront that none of the other villages have.
Have fun!!
