Had our first RE appointment today
After 2 failed IUI cycles with my OB/Gyn, we had our first RE appointment today. Lesson learned - don't waste time with an OB/Gyn for fertility issues. The second IUI cycle I got AF 4dpiui. The doc thought it was implantation spotting and told me to take a HPT. Yeah, ummm I still had HcG in my system from the Ovidrel trigger shot so the test would have come up positive. It was that moment that I decided to move on to an RE.
We decided to see Dr. Zapantis at East Coast Fertility. My friend went to ECF and has two beautiful children to show for it. I thought you girls might be interested in the nitty gritty details about the first RE visit, so here goes...
Each of the staff members we met with were super friendly. DH and I were both impressed by the office and staff. They are very well organized and thorough. We were mailed a packet of registration forms to complete with our medical history and all other pertinent information, so we didn't have a ton of paperwork to do when we got there. A nurse took my vitals, took blood (8 vials for me and 4 for DH), and off to meet Dr. Zapantis we went.
He spent a bit going over our history, family medical history, etc. I was really impressed with his bedside manner, as was DH. He truly listened to all of our concerns and did not push IVF at all. DH and I pretty much set the tone with what plan of action we wanted to take and Dr. Z was very supportive.
Then we went in to do an internal sonogram. Everything measured right on target - ovaries, uterus, and lining. I had many follicles on each side, but all very small, which Dr. Z said means my ovaries are polycystic. I'm on CD 25 and have no signs of O so he's giving me Provera to get moving on our next cycle.
There are a bunch of tests that have to be done. They are VERY thorough, which I really like. We're going to do another monitored Clomid IUI cycle.
Hopefully this is helpful to those of you on the fence about seeing an RE. I highly suggest doing so, as their specialty is getting women PG.

Re: Had our first RE appointment today
Thanks for sharing this. I was considering consulting with and RE if this was another failed month, and your story has made more certain that this is our next step. Thanks again and I wish you lots of luck and sending some baby dust your way!
