GRRRRR....I really hate doctors
Just had my appointment with my OB. It was originally supposed to be yearly pap but since we are TTC and my last one was normal she didn't do another one. When I told her that I hadn't had a period in 60 days she was like "60? As in 6-0?" So obviously its not normal. I said yep, and I am not really feeling anything to tell me that it would be on its way.
Then she gets into the whole "Well - you are young and you haven't been trying that long, and you have only been off birth control 5 months then you could still be regulating....yada,yada, yada" I asked about PCOS, and she said that it didn't look like I had that since I don't seem to have any other symptoms of it. A urine pregnancy test came back negative and she said that we could do provera to force a period but that she really didn't want to do that since we don't know when I ovulated and perhaps I am pregnant but its too soon to tell. And to wait another MONTH ( ) and if I don't have a period by then to come in. WHAT? I asked what the harm could be in getting tested for PCOS and an Ultra sound to make sure I don't have cysts. She said there wouldn't be any harm, so I pushed for it. Better to know now, then go through the stress of another 6 months to only find the problem then. Thanks everyone for helping me realize that I need to be pushy for my own sake.

Good for you!! It will at least give you some peace of mind if everything comes back normal. Good luck!

great for you for pushing! if you dont feel comfortable with her after you go through the testings, maybe consider changing docs. i hope they get to the bottom of this!

Re: GRRRRR....I really hate doctors
I was seeing an RE and for the simple fact that I had somewhat long cycles he tested me for PCOS immediately. I didn't have other symptoms other than longish cycles and we were trying for 9 months.
My cycles were anywhere from 35 to 40+ days usually.
The test ended up being negative... but it was good to be able to rule that out as a possibility.

Re: GRRRRR....I really hate doctors
you need to be pushy sometimes!! i went to my ob/gyn after 64 days of no AF, he took a pregnancy test - it came back negative, did my yearly exam and then did a sonogram to make sure i wasnt pregnant and to check my ovaries and uterus. He did tell me that he didnt want to give me provera until he got back my blood test results - because if it was some hormonal reason why my cycle was so long he rather treat that issue first. (which made sense to me) i ended up getting AF a few days before my results came back!

It's a good thing you pushed for it! I had no other symptons for PCOS except for very long and irregular cycles.
