Grrr...Cats & Christmas trees
Grr...after I decorated my tree friday night-my cat ruined it :( he didnt climb all the way up-it cant support him, but hes leaning on the bottom branches and taking all my ornaments off.
What can I do to prevent this? is there maybe a spray?

Re: Grrr...Cats & Christmas trees
we just went through this...we put the tree up the day after thanksgiving. I have 2 kittens...it was a nightmare at first we had to get a smaller tree the only place that was safe was if i put it in the tub at night if i put it in a room and closed the door they scratched on the door. I know have it up on a table with a tree skirt around it and they dont mess with it now...they have tried but cant get up on it with the tree skirt.

I tried tin foil to stop my cats from jumping on the countertops. They LOVED it. They would jump up, knock it down, and then play with the foil.
My cats are un-decorating my tree, too. Last year, when they were just kittens, they pretty much ignored it. This year, they have decided that all ornaments on low branches must be removed. They don't even play with them once they get them off. They just take them off, then go back to take more off. I don't know how they get some of them off, honestly.

Oh no!! you are scaring me for next year. Duke has been pretty good this yr. he does go in the tree and lay there and occasionally swats the ornaments, I hope he isnt more interested in the tree tree next yr!

Re: Grrr...Cats & Christmas trees
I got home last night and my cats had DESTROYED my tree. You don't understand how beautiful this tree was -- not the decorating, but the tree itself. It was huge and perfectly shaped and they clearly climbed it, broke branches, etc., etc. Luckily they didn't break any of our special ornaments, just some balls. We were able to salvage it, but it isn't the same.
They are living in the basement now when we aren't home for their own safety. (Don't worry, our basement is enormous, bigger than most apartments, with multiple rooms, all fully finished with central air and heat... It's not like they're locked in a dungeon.)
They were totally fine last year and the first several days this year... Then we came home last night to the tree massacre.
I will try the sprays, but I think they will be staying in the basement while we are not home until the tree is down. (IF we can keep them there that is... They can open doors, so we have to barracade the doors so they can't get out... *sigh*

Re: Grrr...Cats & Christmas trees
No advice from me because my cat had no interest in the tree UNTIL I wrapped all my gifts.
Now all he does is run under there, crawl across all the gifts - I've had to re-wrap 2 gifts that had open holes in the boxes as thats where his paw went right through
Last night I heard him pushing something across the floor. I get up to see what he has this time - the box to the earrings that I got for MIL.
He goes behind the tree & just stares up at us like we're the NUTTY ones. He also has this thing with the tree skirt...he'll just lay there & kick it with his back legs until its all in a big mess

My cats undo the tree skirt and remove it from the tree. Then they lay on it.
Why can't they just lay on it without moving it first?!
