Grrr.... may need a new RE- long
I am so livid!!!!! I didn't get voicemail last night (LI-IVF) so I called the emergency service. They tell me the name of the nurse that was on call and I inwardly groaned. She has no bedside manner, makes you feel like you are bothering her when you call the emergency service, does not clearly tell you the info (I always have questions) and makes me uncomfortable at the Melville office by announcing office politic issues in front of patients. Oh, and she gives me a cold stare to draw my blood but HER patients get the warmest of welcomes. I have never spoken a full sentence to her, so I can't take credit for creating her bad tude.
So she calls me back last night and gives me the directions. I hang up, get the meds ready and have questions because her info didn't make sense. I groaned about having to call back. She calls back and I tell her that I can't take 225 units of Ganirelex- it comes in 250 units. She says yes, you can make it the amount that you need. I ask her my other question and hang up. DH watches me get anxious when I realize that I have to take 250 units or nothing- you cannot decrease the units on Ganirelex. I stupidly took it instead of calling her back.
This morning I go into see Jane at Lake Success and BAM- I took the wrong MEDICINE!!! I was supposed to take the Gonal Pen, not Ganirlex. So instead of stimming, I suppressed. I started to cry and had her close the door. I told her that the nurse I spoke to heard me say Ganirelex, but clearly she wasn't LISTENING or she would have caught my mistake. I didn't have to go in today- I wasn't due for b/s until the 7th. Could you imagine if I had kept taking the wrong meds and ended up with a cancelled cycle? All because someone is a *b* and does not do her job with any care or concern. My nurse told me to complain to my doctor and that she would share my story as well.
So, DH and I just spoke. I will not receive care from this nurse ever again. I want it on my file and if she is the on-call nurse I want a direct line to my RE or someone else. If they don't do this, then I am stopping this cycle and going elsewhere. Seriously, is it that hard to do a job well when it comes to such important things as this?
Vent over..... gotta do a lot of yoga tonight to bring me back to my happy state

Re: Grrr.... may need a new RE- long
i am really sorry about ur horrible exp with that nurse. thankfully ur cycle wasnt cancelled. i went to rsofny and bumped heads with one of the NPs there. i had it in my chart that i did not want to see her, speak to her anything (she handled my mc pretty insensitive) so i never saw her... if u like ur re but dont like the nurse just tell the office manager u dont want to deal with her. trust me they will accomodate u
good luck on ur cycle!!

Re: Grrr.... may need a new RE- long
Sigh..... I think infertility is teaching me how to be assertive.
I basically told my RE that I would not talk to her and if they couldn't have me talk to someone else when she is on call, then I would have to stop the cycle and leave the practice. This despite the fact that I love my RE and feel he is being proactive in my treatment. Well, I just got a call and was informed that someone else will handle my calls when that nurse is on- call. Of course, I ran to another teacher's room to take the call from my RE and now that teacher knows I am dealing with IF and then my aide came in on the second phone call and she knows that I am dealing with IF. oy!
Quiet Amy is no longer so quiet.... but then, having a baby is too important.
It all ended ok. Yoga time

Re: Grrr.... may need a new RE- long
I did two IUIs and one IVF at LIIVF and while I personally liked my doctor, I did not care for the practice. It was too big and I felt like I was constantly being shuffled around. No one really knew me and my medical history. I moved to Dr. Braverman and had a much better experience. He and his nurses give you their emails and cell phone numbers. They are incredibly responsive and warm. Moreover, the actual medical care I received was so much better! They caught all of these things that LIIVF refused to look at. Consequently, I got pregnant on my first try with Dr. Braverman and now am 6 months pregnant. I shudder to think of how much time I could have wasted had I not switched doctors.

Wow SO sorry you had to go through that. If that happened to me I would RUN to another practice. Insensitivity is one thing – but a nurse not catching something that resulted in you taking the wrong medication is completely unacceptable and unprofessional. Thank goodness it didn’t ruin your cycle!! Good luck and tons of !!

Re: Grrr.... may need a new RE- long
omg that's absolutely horrible! i do not blame you one bit for not allowing that one nurse to have anything to do with you - good job sticking up for yourself!
I never understood how nurses who work in IF clinics could possibly be RUDE to their patients! The nurses and the secretaries at my RE's office are rude also and it infuriates me! how can they not have compassion for what everyone is going through? and to give you the wrong information regarding your medication is absolutely unacceptable.
it is so nice to hear that your RE has made accommodations for you and won't allow that nurse to have anything to do with you
best of luck with your cycle and i hope the yoga helped!!

Re: Grrr.... may need a new RE- long
My fellow LIIVF patient, I believe I know that exact nurse you are talking about! She always has a puss on her face. I dread going to Melville on the weekends to have to deal with her and I haven't had as bad of a situation as you have. I even asked one of the sono techs one day what her problem was and even she knew exactly who I was talking about. She sucks! You definitely shouldn't have to deal with that - you are going through enough! I am glad that they fixed it so you won't have to deal with it again!

Oh nooooo... Im sorry you have to deal with that!! Thats all you need as an added stress factor to something that is ALREADY stressful... I have no idea who you are referring to as I've had nothing but good experiences with everyone but will definately keep an eye out now that I know that they exist!!!

Re: Grrr.... may need a new RE- long
I'm sorry you had a bad experience. The stress of IF is hard enough without a bad attitude.
I'm a fellow Melville patient and have had nothing but positive experiences with the whole staff.

I would have been livid too. I can't believe the stupidity.
Jane is the only nurse at LI-IVF that I ever deal with. I feel the other nurses have no patience. This is one of the reasons why I will be changing doctors next cycle.
I'm so glad that they didn't cancel the cycle. Best of Luck!!!

I'm so glad that they didn't cancel the cycle. Best of Luck!!! I agree. Jane is a doll and never made me feel badly during the 15 minutes she was with me yesterday morning. I think I would have cried more than the tear or two I had if it had not been for her professional and kind reaction to the situation.
