Graco snugride 35 vs. 30

I have a smallish car (Toyota matrix) but we registered for the 35 because we are both tall and even though we are having twins who are usually born small, we assume our kids will catch up and eventually be on the bigger to average size.

DH met a twin family last night in the parking lot of BBB (yes, he just outright approaches twin families now, so cute) and asked them how their car seats fit. They had two 35s in a Jeep Grand Cherokee and they said it was a mistake, that they should have bought the 30's because they have to put their front seats far up and it's uncomfortable for them (they were both our heights, 6'2" and 5'8").

Is there any merit to registering for the 30s instead? They are 3 inches shorter in depth, but they only accommodate the child up to 30 pounds versus the bigger car seat which is up to 35 pounds. At that point does it matter?
TIA

you will never keep a child in that seat up to 30lbs.

i would go with the smaller seats! At 27 months, my son is only 33lbs and he is on the higher end of the 2 year old growth curve.

I agree. Save your money and go with the smaller seats.

That's a good point, my niece is very similar to your son in age and size and there's no way she'd fit in that seat.
Thanks!

Most infants outgrow the height restrictions waaaaaaaaaaaay before they could outgrow the weight restrictions. DS outgrew the 30 around 8 months because of height, but even now at over 2 years old he's still not 30lbs.

This, exactly. DD is now 29.5 inches (rapidly approaching height limit) but 23.3 lbs.

Re: Graco snugride 35 vs. 30

I registered for them thinking i can use them past a yr old and over 30 lbs, but we are going to exchange them becaue there is no way in Helll im carrying 2 carriers plus babies at 45 lbs each. And they wont fit heightwise in the snap n go stroller. Dh is tall so if they take after him its not happening. We have an suv and roomy car and figure it will be fine roomwise, but I'd prefer to switch them to a rear facing carseat and use the regular stroller around 6 months or so.

ditto what others said but in addition, i remember Baby Bargains saying that the 35 pound seat is heavier and therefore more annoying to carry than the 25 or 30 models. just one other thing to think about.

Graco snugride 35 vs. 30

I have the 35. I have a saturn vue. The only way to get the seat in the car is to have the seats half way forward, which is very uncomfortable for my husband and I. He is 6'4" and I am 6'.
I got the 35 thinking the same thing you did. I switched him into the convertible seat this month, at 11 mos. He is 31 inches long. He was born at 15 3/4" (12 wks premature). He weighs 20 pounds. He is no where near the weight limit. If I had to do it over again, I would have skipped the infant seat altogther. But in your case, I would exchange them for the smaller seats and just switch when they outgrow them.

Does the regular stroller that you are getting have an adaptor for the infant seats available? I had a snap n go and gto rid of it after using it twice. Just wasn't for me. I liked the regular stroller better. But I know most people like the snap n go.

I agree with everyone else. Go with the 30.

My son was out of the infant carrier at 4.5 months, not because he was too big, but because carrying him in the carrier was just getting too heavy for me. He weighed 19 lbs around that time, and his weight plus the weight of the carrier combined was too much for me to handle.

Since we r having twins many double strollers don't give the option of attaching two car seats only one.

Agreed! By the time DD hit 17/18 lbs, I couldn't lift the seat with her in it. Get the lower limit seats.

ITA. i feel like the 35s are a marketing ploy. my DD was a preemie and was small through her first year and we stopped taking the seat out of the car around 9-10m and switched to the convertible at 11.5m. at 12m she was 19.5lbs.

i had a 30 and next time around i will get a 22.

Both my kids were pretty tall/long (21 inches at birth) and so they were both out of the height limits in my Peg infant seat by about 6 months. This time I went for the Graco 35, not for the weight limit but because it gives extra room for max height. Of course we have a minivan now w. adjustible third row so that is not such an issue for us (DH is 6'2 and I am 5'8). It is hard to not be able to use the infant seat when baby is not old enough to sit up by him/herself, for example I remember having to try and prop up DD in the shopping cart seat b/c she was out of the infant seat but couldnt hold herself up. I dont think the 35 is that much bigger with regard to seat room than the 30 though, I would put both in your car and see which works better for you. BRU will let you take the seats out to your car for fit.

Graco snugride 35 vs. 30

I have the even smaller one. 20lbs. We took DS out of it at 15 lbs because it got to heavy to carry for more than a minute. I would even consider that one. DS was born at just over 6 and has had steady growth. But hasn't gotten big

I have the smallest graco and don't regret it one bit. We have a relatively big SUV, but once DD hit 18lbs it was unbearable to carry her around. I really would not get the 35.

Most infants outgrow the height restrictions waaaaaaaaaaaay before they could outgrow the weight restrictions. DS outgrew the 30 around 8 months because of height, but even now at over 2 years old he's still not 30lbs.

ITA!! i would definitly check the height restrictions as opposed to the weight restrictions. We got the snugride 32- 32 lbs, 32 inches and DD#2 was in it until 12 months( she was still under 32 inches) and DD #3 was in it until 12 months when she was 33 inches(she's the tall one), and when we realized that she should be out of it.

I would try them out in the car and see how you feel with the seats and your seats.
And figure out if you plan on using them with the snap and go or if you like taking them out of the car seats.

For me, personally i loved my children in the infant seat because if they were sleeping we could just leave them strapped in and pop the car seat out and put it in the snap n go and go, or bring them in the house. Other people complain that the car seats are too heavy with the baby after 6 months so they don't like to use them. i guess it's personal preference.

WHen I was PG people always said they love the fact if they are sleeping you can just carry them in....It def helps when they are newborns but my DS is 7.5 mons and I find if he falls asleep in the car and is really out cold...we can take him out of his conv. seat and bring him in and he will still sleep.

DS is also way more comfy in his big boy seat. We switched him at approx 5 months (depending on the car) and he is happy as could be and he is a peanut so we could have kept him in the infant seat longer if we wanted. It just got to be a pain IMO.

35lbs DD is just over that at 4.5 years old....she would NEVER be in an infant seat at that point....honestly even 30 lbs DD would have never been in an infant seat.

Graco snugride 35 vs. 30

Maybe I'm weird but DD is 12 months, 85th percentile for height/weight, and still in the Snugride infant seat!! I just find it super convenient. If she falls asleep in the car I can carry her into the house or pop it into the Snap and Go without waking her.
Otherwise, I just lift her out of it as I would with a Convertible seat.
