Got a job! And now a maternity clothes question!

So my interview last Saturday went great, and turns out, my interviewer and now my boss is a mommy and knows what I am dealing with. She made me an offer yesterday and I start Tuesday. Sooo excited!

So here is my question-I now need clothes. I went to Motherhood today and they didn't have much. I did get a dress there. Pea in a Pod had some great stuff, I got a dress there, but I really don't want to be stuck there getting my work clothes, as they are $$$ Chat Icon

Where can I find nice work clothes? I am an attorney and although I won't be in court right away, I need to dress business casual. I am going to need a few court appropriate outfits. Does Ann Taylor or Ann Taylor Loft do maternity or not anymore? I thought they did at one time. I was really disappointed today by Motherhood, as their work section was tiny and not really geared for what I need. Target is nice, but too casual for the most part. I am going to take a look at Kohls as well. Any other ideas of where I can look? If I have to do Pea in a Pod, so be it, I guess I will try to stick with dresses that are less pricey.

Any outfit ideas also? I don't have to wear suits to the office. I would probably get a suit once I am admitted here and definitely need to go get a suit.

Ann Taylor Loft has maternity clothes exclusively online now. According to their website, they'll be coming out with a lot more in September. Gap has some nice pants for work (its in the back of Baby Gap at the Roosevelt Field Mall). I'm not sure where you can find a suit though...

Old Navy maternity online has really great tops for work as well as cardigans. I usually find work stuff at Kohls and Motherhood. I've also been lucky a few times at JCPenney....

Good luck & congrats again!

JCPenny has some maternity stuff

target.com has better selections online than the stores; Kohls has maternity (but the ones near me had a small section..some are better than others.)

try old navy and gap.

i have a 20% off gap coupon..FM if you want the email. they have nice dressy pants.

motherhood.com also has dressy work pants and they ship stuff pretty fast.

yay grats Chat Icon I remember you posting about being worried about getting this job!

I would actually buy good suits in the size I expect to be after pregnancy and just keep them unbuttoned and wear maternity tops underneath.

You can get bella band for the pants and keep them unzipped.

I ordered one and can't wait for it!

Congrats!!! I've gotten good deals at JCPenney. You can also try Burlington. My mom got me a few work tops from there.

CONGRATS Michelle!! That is awesome news! I am so relieved that everything worked out and that your new boss is understanding about the pregnancy!! Go you!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

That being said, I have to wear business attire (business casual in the real world) too. Since I am a chubster, I buy my stuff at Lane Bryant in store and Motherhood Maternity Plus online. I have also gotten a few things with Old Navy online. Since you are not part of the chunky monkey club, I would advise you to check out:

NY & Co.- in store (go up a size or two)
Ann Taylor Maternity- online (you could probably get a suit here when necessary)
Old Navy- online
Gap- online
Motherhood Maternity- online

Motherhood has some affordable dresses online - they don't always have the same selection in the store.

It's tough now because it seems that they are between seasons...

The Gap had some good work pants/tops.

Also - you can get non-maternity dresses that are flowy.

Re: Got a job! And now a maternity clothes question!

I'm also an attorney and spent a fortune at Pea in a Pod early on - bought a bunch of stuff stuff way too early that now still doesn't fit quite right (never been pregnant before so I didn't expect my hips and thighs to shrink). I did get some really great dresses there, and a couple of good tops, but I have found the pants from Gap and Old Navy are cheaper, more comfortable, and perfectly work appropriate - but most of their selection is online only, which can be annoying because I find the clothes run a little big. The only other piece of advice I would give you is don't buy too much now - pick up some basics and dresses to get you through for now and add on as you need to, since you never quite know what your body's going to do. I may have to start selling stuff online...
