Good Sam- Overnight
Why can't our SO's stay with us overnight after delivery? I just found this out, and am really upset about it.

Re: Good Sam- Overnight
I was wondering this myself. Two friends of ours had kids in the past two weeks. Both hospitals wouldn't allow SO's to stay overnight but neither of them had roommates so the nurses let them stay. If they had roommates, they would have had to leave. I'm due Saturday and I'm hoping DH can stay. I keep hoping I don't go too late because of all the Sandy babies.

Good Sam- Overnight
I had DD in March 2011 and DH was not allowed to stay overnight and I did not have a roommate my entire stay. He was allowed to stay late but not overnight.

Re: Good Sam- Overnight
Probably because the rooms are incredibly small. My room was barely big enough for the baby and me!

Re: Good Sam- Overnight
I asked the hospital this. If the baby is born overnight they can stay but they have to go home the next night. They said it is because DH will need his rest and mommy needs time to acclimate to baby. I thought it was quite BS as well, but DH doesn't mind.

Re: Good Sam- Overnight
If you have a roommate I really don't think it's fair to them to have your so stay, your already sharing a bathroom with one person that you really don't want to. Besides good Sam rooms are so small and there is no where for anyone to sleep they don't even have a reclining chair.

Re: Good Sam- Overnight
Honestly, I was glad DH got to go home. You get such broken sleep in the hospital between feedings and people coming in to check vitals that at least one of us was sleeping well!

Re: Good Sam- Overnight
I had my DS at Good Sam in February of this year. I had a roommate 2 out of 3 nights. DH stayed every night. Nobody said a word about it. He would go out to use a public bathroom when he needed so that he wasn't in the way of anyone else in the room. I was happy to have him stay, I got to sleep while he took care of the baby, since we didn't want him in the nursery. None of the nurses or doctors said anything to us about it.

They told us he couldn't stay in apr but I'm sure he could of but honestly let him go home, I even sent mine to work everyday till I was discharged. You need him at home more than you do there. You will barely sleep and you don't want to bug your roommate. The rooms are small.

The rooms are tiny and you have a roommate. It would be unfair to your roommate.
I wanted DS to go home. IMO there is no need. You have an entire staff for help.

No guest is allowed to use the bathrooms in room. They are only for the patients!!!

i found the staff to be zero help! I had an epi and after giving birth they had my husband pick me up from the bed and put me in the wheel chair. Then when they brought me down to the room, they had him leave and the woman didnt know how to move the feet things from the wheel chair or to lift me, and i couldnt get up on my own. I NEEDED my DH there for a lot of things. I had an episiotomy and couldnt get up on my own even after that, and the staff never came when i called them. DH didnt stay the second night and i had an awful experience with them so much so that i'm not going there to deliever #2. My roomate had her DH stay over the first night as well but had him leave the second night (which was out first) so she understood. DH didn't use the private bathrooms either.

Well my roommates guests were using our bathroom. So I considered my husband being curteous by not utilizing it, since many others in our room were. The staff never said anything to my roommate about her guests using the bathroom. It also didn't bother me, they were in and out pretty quickly.

This for me as well. My DH was A LOT more helpful than the staff. I absolutely needed him there with me. If it wasn't for my doctor, and GS being the main hospital he delivers at, I would not deliver there again.

I was in the hospital while I was pregnant and had a roommate who had a ton of visitors and they were using the bathroom. The nurse saw it told them they couldn't and had cleaning come and clean it for me.
IMO those rooms are jsut too small to have too many people.
I am not the biggest fan of the hospital but if my Dr only delivered on a street corner I woudl do it so I am stuck for #2.

I agree, those rooms are way too small. I'm with you on tr whole Dr. Situation. I'm pretty sure we use the same doc, Dr. A? I remember reading a post of yours a while back about him. I too, would be right there on the agree corner with you! I could never leave him!

I had ds in September. Ask the nurse if your dh can sleep over the minute you get to your room. If you do not have a roommate they will let him stay. I had a roommate on my last night there and I did not mind that her dh slept in the room and she did not mind that my dh slept over. The nurses did not say anything to us.

Re: Good Sam- Overnight
Honestly, DH going home when my DDs were born was no big deal to me. At least he was getting a good night of sleep. I'd have hated for him to be sleeping in a chair. Also, then I was able to give him a list of things to do and get before coming back the next day!
