Good "law" movies

I am going to be teaching Business & Personal Law this upcoming September.

I am looking for some recommendations for good movies that emphasize a lot on trials/court/juries/etc.

My dept chair person said to come up with enough for about 2 a month. (the textbook is very dry)

The only one off the top of my head is Runaway Jury

I found this list of the top 10 movies every law student should see.

It immediately discounts 12 Angry Men, though, which I think would be a great choice.

I'm sure they have all seen that..lol

How is Boston Legal the TV Show?

Law and Order and CSI is more about the crime. Shark is good but I don't think its out on DVD yet.

I love that movie, but they couldn't have screwed up legal procedure any more if they tried! Chat Icon Chat Icon

What about an episode of the Practice- they always had good ethical issues, some of which were in a business setting.

The show is entertaining, but not great on law. Its all about theatrics with them. Not too many business issues.

North Country leads ultimately to a lawsuit. But the focus isn't on the trial. About the first class-action lawsuit against an employer re: sexual harassment. I loved this movie.

This was good. I had to show this one when I subbed. The students love the "dildo"scene.

I couldn't think of the name when I was making my list!

At first it was. It really dealt with ethical dilemmas. I'm sure you will deal with ethics in the class. After a while it got very far fetched!

Oh! What about that Martha Stewart trial movie with Cybil Sheppard. I never saw it, but it was a trial based on business. That may be good for your class.

Re: Good "law" movies

I think Rashomon would be a great pick too, and one that people mention and talk about all the time.

When I was in high school I took a law class & we watched a made for TV movie about Bernie Goetz. As far as I remember the whole movie took place at the trial with flash backs.

I found this list of the top 10 movies every law student should see.

I looked at this list and I would recommend:
Inherit the Wind
A Man for all seasons
To Kill a Mockingbird
Death and the Maiden

(although I think Death and the Maiden might be pretty heavy for a HS class).

The Verdict is also a good movie about a court case, but goes into a lot about the main character (Paul Newman)

A Man for All Seasons and To Kill a Mockingbird are 2 of my all time favorites, just because they are good movies.
