Gold Coast IVF - Dr. Palter

Ok. So I know I haven’t been on here in a while….I’ve been really busy going to the Dr. and everything, but now I need some advice…..I went to Dr. Palter at Gold Coast IVF and he ran all the normal tests, and found nothing. Long story short, he’s recommending Clomid and IUI because nothing came up in the test results, he says that IUI will help me get pregnant and then put me on progesterone immediately following. He’s assuming that I could have a problem with hormones, which can not be tested. I’ve spoken to a family friend who is an OBGYN who says I should get a second opinion just in case to make sure this is really what should be my next step. While this Dr. works primarily on the South shore, he hasn’t heard of Dr. Palter (who’s on the North shore). A: Should I be nervous that he hasn’t heard of him? B: Is it really necessary to get a 2nd opinion?
What would you do?

I don't think I would be nervous that he has never heard of him. I do think I would get a second opinion though. The part that confuses me is I don't understand why he would say that it might be a hormone thing that can't be tested. I know lots of people get testing on CD3 and then again at 7DPO to check various hormone leves. I wouldn't want to go through all that (the Clomid, IUI, progesterone) unless it was necessary, KWIM?

In July, I had bloodwork done and found out that my progrsterone was on the low side. My doctor prescribed progesterone for when I was ready to TTC again. I think for me, I would like to try to figure out the specific issue, and then address that. HTH! Good luck!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Well. I guess I can clarify a little bit. He ran all the normal tests you have when you’ve had multiple MC. I also had the uncomfortable sonogram and x ray to show that there is no scarring or any problems with my insides. He did check the hormone levels at day 3 and then again 7 DPO. I am calling tomorrow to get a copy of all of the test results, but he said that everything is normal. At this point, since I’ve had two MC, he said if I got PG, he would just start me on endometrin? (The progesterone inserts) twice a day. Otherwise he’s recommending do IUI because it is a small possibility that I could have just had bad luck two times in a row and released two bad eggs. About 20% of all womens eggs are not viable, so it’s possible. With IUI he’s saying that I would have a greater chance of releasing a healthier egg. He said it’s a possibility that I could have a hormone problem where I’m running out of hormones and before the placenta is fully grown and takes over the hormones, I could be running out of them and that’s what he said can’t be tested. He said that because your body releases hormones every 20 minutes, it’s very difficult to see if your body is running our of hormones. Even though he’s testing your blodd at CD3 and 7DPO, that’s not enough. Does that make more sense? I guess I should be a better listener, and have written down everything he said, but this is the gist. I don’t think I’m explaining it all too clearly, but I'm hoping someone can shd smelight on this situation and give me moe peace of mind. I'm scheduled to start Clomid this weekend assuming AF comes on time.

No, that definitely clarifies. If he has done all that testing, and everything is coming up OK, then the IUI makes sense to me, although I don't have any experiece with this myself. I saw you posted this on IF as well...I'm sure some of the ladies over there will be able to provide better advice than me. Chat Icon
