Going to an RE

Will an RE see you if it's been less than 1 year of trying? I feel like I need a plan in my head because it makes me feel a little better about this whole journey. I was thinking if at 10 months of trying, I will plan to see an RE.

My friend went to an RE at the 8 month mark. They did figure out prior that she wasn't ovulating on her own, which is one of the reasons that they decided to go to an RE so she could start Clomid.

do they have to know the exact time frame? why not add a few months and say a year?

I knew I was going to have problems because I had known issues with PCOS ... but I waited 3 months (it then took 3 years to get where I am, but that's another story!)

If you're over 35 it's 6 months. But yeah, just lie if you feel like you need to see someone. It will take a bit to get through all the testing and stuff anyway so you can keep trying on your own.

I lied and said we had been actively trying for over 6 mos(I am 36) we have however not been using BC for four years so they took that as a sure reason to be there. Just lie. No one would know.

I don't think the RE will care exactly how long you have been trying on your own. It's more of your insurance. If you have insurance coverage for infertility, they may require you to try on your own for 1 year before they will pay for infertility treatment. Not sure how they would know if you lie though.

For insurance purposes you have to try for a year. Its up to you if you want to stretch the truth or not...ha. Good luck. We waited a little over a year and now will be starting our first IUI cycle at the year and a half mark...

My GYN knew I had fertility issues and I was told not to wait more than 6 months.
Although we were only trying actively for 6 months before going to an RE we had not been protecting against for 2-3 years.

Your insurance would know if you are filling scrips for birth control.

Most doctors won't refer until the 1 year mark, barring any extenuating issues.

It took me 8 months and 1 chemical, but now I am almost 9 weeks. TTC is a hard journey, especially if you think you can control or plan it perfectly. My DR would have referred me after 3 months due to my insulin resistance, but I got pregnant and had a chemical, which held us up for a few months. I was pregnant again within 4 months, and looking forward to my LO in October.

I have not seen an RE yet, but my GYN put me on a second round of clomid due to known pre-existing issues.
If you feel like you need a plan go to the RE and say whatever will get you what you need girl!

Most insurance companies don't care. I thought the same thing. My only word of advice is if you think there is a problem go to an RE do not let your Ob try to be your RE like mine did. Disastrous and the stories I can tell you. It took us 18m and within my 2nd cycle at the RE I was pg.

I agree, if you think there is a problem go to an RE. Nothing wrong with embellishing and saying you've been trying for a year. My ins co never called me or asked me how long I had been trying for. Best of Luck to you!!!!!
