going off bcp-advice needed
Hey Ladies,
I'm new to LIF, although I'm a pretty frequent poster on LIW..
I just started reading this board and still have a lot of terminology to learn!
Here's my question-
I really want to go off my BCP. I've been on the pill on and off for 12 years (been on Yaz the last 2 1/2 years straight). I hate the pill, and all the side effects that come with it.
My DH thinks that every woman is super fertile-all of his friend's wives got pregnant by the 3rd try, whereas all of the women I know who have babies had a lot of trouble TTC along with miscarrying...
Ideally we would like to begin TTC by early summer-
Is it a good idea to go off the bcp right now? We are absolutely ready to have a baby, in the event that we got pregnant immediately..although it would be more ideal to wait since we're selling 2 apartments at the moment.
I value your opinions. TIA!
Jen

Well I guess the honest answer is don't go off BC unless you are Ok with the possibility that you could get pregnant. I went off BC a year before we actually started "trying" because like you I didn't like the side effects adn htought I'd feel better off it...and DH and I decided together that if it happened it wouldn't be bad...so that was my choice. You ahve to do whats right for you.

I would suggest definitely going off the pill a few months before you want to start trying.
I went off close to 6 weeks ago and still waiting to ovulate.. get my period... ANYTHING

Re: going off bcp-advice needed
I agree with the above poster. I would wait to get of the pill a few months before your ready...maybe around March or April? In some cases it takes a few months for your body to get back to normal and it may take a few cycles for you to start ovulating again. Again this is in some cases, some girls get off the pill and boom they are pregnant. Everyone's body is different and to be on the safe side I would wait a few months before your ready.
Men think everything is easy lol...it truly isn't, its all about timing and patience. Good Luck!!

Like the other ladies said, I'd go off a few months before you actually want to start trying. This way you'll give your body some time to adjust. And then if it does happen right away it will only be a few months earlier than you wanted.

I got off almost a year before we decided to try - mainly b/c of what pp said about regulating your cycle.
If your not ready to get pg than you could always use condoms

Re: going off bcp-advice needed
I agree with what has already been said. You should go off of the BCP now but use condoms if you do not want to get PG before you are really ready to start trying. I wish I had gone off 6 months to a year ago but I have only been off since September. My first cycle was 28 days but my second was 34 days and now I'm on my third. I am supposed to get AF on xmas eve but who knows. It takes your body a few months to get back to normal. So if you and DH are ok with using condoms then I say stop the BCP this cycle.

Re: going off bcp-advice needed
I would go off BC now even though you may not be completely ready to conceive. Just use back-up.
I went off BC at the end of January. I had my first period six weeks later and then everything shut down. I saw my doctor in later spring. He made a few suggestions to "reboot" my system. I waited until towards the end of the summer to take him up on it. I took provera in mid-August. Three weeks later, I apparently began ovulating again because I got my BFP in mid-September!!!
Bottom line is you never know what your body is going to do when you stop taking BC. Good luck!

Re: going off bcp-advice needed
Thanks so much girls. I'm going to finish out this cycle of BCP and be off of it. We will use backup protection, and keep track of O-days..
And if we end up with a surprise sooner than planned it will be a blessing. Either way DH and I are ready for a baby wether we're pregnant in a month or a year.

Re: going off bcp-advice needed
I think its different with everyone and also depends on the type of pill. I am not able to take BCP with estrogen due to migraines so I took the mini pills and was back to normal cycles the very next cycle.
