Going into the city with an infant...

We have to go into the city this weekend to visit my uncle (he had a prtty bad stroke at the beginning of April Chat Icon ) and he's dying to see James since it's been so long. We'll be taking the train into Penn and then we were going to walk to E. 68th, but what happens if it rains? How do we handle the cab with the baby? he's not in an infant seat anymore, so do we just hold him on our laps in the cab? Chat Icon It just seems so unsafe.... DH and I were in an accident in a cab a few years back and I can't imagine anything like that happening while holding a baby. Chat Icon

Any tips/pointers? Chat Icon

Re: Going into the city with an infant...

I took cabs ALL the time when S when under a year; I used to bring the Bjorn when he was really small after that I just held him it was NO problem. Most of the drivers I had were REALLy careful since I had the baby with me; once or twice I asked them to please drive slower and I think a total of ONCE the driver ignored me at which point I asked him to pull over and got out.

If it's bad weather you could just take the subway crosstown to pick up the 4-5-6 which'll take you to E. 68th with no cab necessary!!
