Gliders

Did you register for a glider? I am on the fence. I am leaning towards one because I plan on BFing as long as possible. I dont know if I should pass altogether, register for one, or just buy one myself. I bought my own stroller, carseat, and high chair, and my mom's getting the furniture so there aren't too many big ticket items on my registry.

I figure if I get it I get if, if I don't I can decide later if I want to buy it myself right?

Re: Gliders

I didn't register for one only because I knew my sister was giving me hers. You should register for it. Even if no one buys it for you, there is a registry completion discount of 10% off (although I have seen complaints of never receiving this coupon). I have also gotten sooo many gift cards... you should wait instead of spending your own money now, you can use gist cards for it or store credit from returns of duplicate gifts.

Re: Gliders

I voted no because I didn't register for one, but my mom bought the baby it's entire furniture set plus the glider and ottoman for the nursery.

Re: Gliders

We bought it ourselves. The one we chose was too expensive to put on a registry and also is not available at stores where we registered. If they have one you like at a store you registered at, then go for it. If you don't get it, then you can use the coupon or gift cards.

Re: Gliders

am I crazy for not wanting one?

we have no room for one.... and they're sooo $$$ ($500+)

I figure if we really need a rocker, I'll borrow my mom's rocking chair and give it back to her later on....

No, I'm on the fence about it but we have a big cushy chair in the room right now that will be fine. I can see how nice they are to have, but hopefully I will be able to get away without it.

I didn't want one either...aesthetically, I don't like them, but they are rather comfy.

I opted for a mod rocker instead - something that would grow with the baby.

ETA: to answer the OP, I agree with Julz...I would register for it and it no one purchases it, use the 10% buy out at the end.

Re: Gliders

DH and I purchased our glider. Reason being why we didn't put it on our registry was because we wanted a specific material and wood color. We ordered it from BBB. I was even able to use a 20% coupon!

It takes 8-10 weeks to come in. If I put it on the regsitry, not sure if someone would purchase it because of how expensive it was and then to add an additional 8-10 weeks on top of that, the baby would have already been here.

HTH!

Re: Gliders

i registered for one because i know i'll use it all the time, whether it's in the nursery or the living room. however, i didn't want to spend a fortune on it, so i found the shermag glider at target and registered for that one - i have heard it is very very comfortable and it's less than $300!

Interesting that you mentioned mod rockers...
I should add that I'm an only child and mom has saved ALL of my stuff... and the nursing chair my parents used for me was this gorgeous 1970's mod egg chair.... and it's sitting in our living room right now Chat Icon I was just debating whether we need a rocking motion Chat Icon hence the idea of snagging mom's rocker.... I'm glad I'm not the only one not getting a glider Chat Icon

Re: Gliders

We may buy one at Target. I am not sure if we are even going to like it or use it. I know many who don't. I just don't see it practical to spend a lot of money on something I may not like or use.

We're getting one but not registering for it. We're buying it on our own. They are so expensive and we are lucky because one of our best friends has a membership at Direct Buy so we're actually going to get it at half off what the stores are charging. Thank goodness!!! Chat Icon

Re: Gliders

I did register for one at Target, but I have such a small registry there that we'll most likely get it ourselves.

Re: Gliders

I put one on my register just in case and my MIL bought it for me. I love my glider and cant imagine not having one. I live in the darn thing. I would get a really good one. Mine does not recline and I think that would have been nice. I did not want to put an expensive one on the registry. If noone buys it then you can prob use the discount BRU gives to you for items on your registry that were not bought

Re: Gliders

A coworker/friend of mine was actually done with her glider. So she was kind enough to give it to us. She had a Chat Icon as well but we were looking to go more neutral. My sister was kind enough to make slip covers for the denim/blue cushions that were there.

I'll have to take a pic, I love the way it came out.

Re: Gliders

My aunt is actually buying me the glider. I wasn't sure i wanted one because the room is kind of small, but she insists.

If you have some of the larger items that you bought yourself, i'd put the glider on there. You never know! Chat Icon

Re: Gliders

we have a small nursery and we didn't want to spend a lot of the glider so we actually ended up getting one off of craigslist. It was a year old....our due dates were a year apart (which was strange) and it was in great condition. they had a small home and couldn't fit it anymore. We washed the cushion covers and it looks great in the room.

Just another option:)

Re: Gliders

I didnt register for one but did get one as a gift. It is one of the greatest things and I only BF for 1 month. I had a big baby and could never get comfy to BF in the glider, but we sit in it every day as we get ready for bed. We read books in it, take bottles in it, just sit as I rock him to sleep! My favorite time is spent holding him as he goes to sleep in the glider, before I put him in his crib for the night!
I am sooo glad I got one. (Ours was probably about $200 or less)

Re: Gliders

I would say my glider is one of the most used baby items I have.

When BFing it was the ONLY comfy chair in the house.

When rocking him to sleep it was so much easier than anywhere else.

And as he gets bigger it's a great place to snuggle and read together.

I didn't think I wanted one when I was preggo but I can't imagine not having it looking back on the last year.
