girls bathing suits ....rash guards??

i was all set to get my daughter a cute little bathing suit, but i keep seeing these 2 piece sets with a rash guard (look like a tshirt).

do you ladies recommend these over the cute little bikinis? im guessing they protect them from the sun more? my daughter will be a year old this summer if that matters.

also, do you recommend them for safe t swim? i think it might be easier to keep a hold of her without her slipping out of my hands???

thanks

I got DS a couple of rash guards to match his swim trunks. They have at least 50 SPF so for me, it's great that I won't have to lather up his whole body with sunblock, just the exposed areas. Especially since if they're in the water, you have to reapply often, even if the lotion is "waterproof."

DS wore a rash guard for his swim classes. I like that it kept him "warmer" when his body was above the water.

thanks. i didnt even think about the fact it would keep her warmer. its going to be her first time in a pool, so i think that might help her not freak out

Re: girls bathing suits ....rash guards??

thats all we used for my dd when she was a year old was the rash guard bathing suits!! They were the best I had a draw full of cute one piece and bikinis and she didn't wear them once or maybe a few times but the rash guard lived in them. Helps with the sun on the shoulders etc.

Plus the one piece are a pain because if you have to change her diaper you have to take the whole suit off

If you do want to get them, Costco (I am in NJ, they had a ton of them!) had some very cute ones. I also saw them at Target.

I agree with the AP. I have boys but they live in them at the pool during the summer and on vacation. It protects their tummy and backs from getting sun burned.

Re: girls bathing suits ....rash guards??

Can someone explain to me what a rash guard is?
And what kind of a rash does it guard against?

I'm so confused!

I agree with all of this. I personally don't like the look of bikinis on baby girls. One pieces are a pain.

I just make sure the rash guard top doesn't have a high neck. I just bought a cute one from Old Navy.

rash guard

Ah ha! Thanks!

So more of a sunburn guard?
Still not sure what kind of rash it would guard from!

Plus i feel like she would be sweating out in the heat in that thing no?

I think surfers/etc wear them, hence the name “rash guard” (friction from the surfboard I guess)…and they’ve become popular for kids too. We don’t use them. I feel like they’d be very warm too, plus I am always slathering on the sunblock like crazy. Plus I just think regular suits are cuter. Chat Icon

I have both for her, cute 2 piece or 1 piece and bring the rash guard too...and depending upon how hot/sunny it is I use it.

Re: girls bathing suits ....rash guards??

i love rash guard suits. i'll get one regular suit and one or two rash guard suits. it keeps them warmer and blocks out more sun.

Love them! I've found some really cute ones. The less sunblock on the body the better!
