Southwest Flight Attendant Tries to Boot Hooters Waitress From Plane Over Clothing
A 23-year-old college student claimed Friday that Southwest Airlines singled her out after a male flight attendant told her that her white denim miniskirt, high-heel sandals and sweater over a tank top was too "revealing."
Southwest Airlines stands behind that flight attendant's decision two months ago to confront Kyla Ebbert, who also works as Hooters waitress in downtown San Diego, after complaints from another employee about Ebbert's choice of clothing.
"He told me my outfit was too provocative, too revealing for a family airline," Ebbert told FOX News, appearing in the same outfit she wore on the flight."He told me that I needed to go to the gift shop and buy a new outfit and change and get on a later flight."
Ebbert then pulled down her skirt, tightened her sweater over her tank top and wrapped up in a blanket in her seat.
"I was humiliated," Ebbert said.
Southwest defended the employee's decision.
"We don't feel like our employee was in the wrong," Chris Mainz, a spokesman for Southwest Airlines, told FOXNews.com. "Our employee addressed the situation with the customer and they were able to find a compromise."
Mainz said another employee approached the flight attendant with objections to Ebbert's outfit. The flight attendant then brought those concerns to Ebbert and asked her to adjust her clothes to be less revealing.
A photo of what Ebbert was wearing appeared in a column in the San Diego Union-Tribune.
"Based on reports by employees, it was very similar," Mainz said about the clothing worn by Ebbert in the photo. "It does seem to fit the description."
Ebbert said she was lightly dressed after a same-day trip to Tucson, Ariz., and back for a doctor's appointment. The weather forecast called for temperatures between 100 and 110 that day.
"I was dressed appropriately for the middle of the summer," Ebbert said.

I've seen people on airplanes wearing shorts and a tank top... that, IMO, is more revealing that what this girl is wearing. Because she has some ta-tas, people automatically find it revealing and offensive... what's the poor girl to do, wear a turtleneck???

I don't think there is anything wrong with her shirt. I think the skirt (if you can call it that!) is very short, but I would only see it being a problem if it was so short that she was exposing herself when she was sitting down.

Ok I saw this on the today show this morning and her out fit was fine but as she sat down you could see her underwear. I am wondering if she had the same type on or any at all during the flight. I think someone may have seen her crotch when she sat down and that was the reason they were offended. If she was already standing or sitting IMO she looks fine.

I saw it too and that was my thought as well - you could totally see up her skirt as she sat down. But, on an airplane, who has that view anyway?
Sitting next to a drunk on a plane is far more offensive to me than this girl.

the outfit looks fine... even if she is sitting down she would have another seat in front of her... now if it was on the LIRR and the sears were facing each other maybe a differnt story

I was going to say something along those lines -- perhaps southwest should stop selling alcohol on their flights if they are trying to keep with the family image.

i can see that if her crotch were showing that it might be offensive (i would think it was more funny than offensive, but that's just me), but i think the airline could have handled it differently, by just asking her to put the blanket on her lap, which she ended up doing on her own (out of embarassment it seems).
i think we get enough crotch shots from britney, lindsey and paris these days, i can definitely understand why people don't want to see any more. but to ask her to change? that's a bit much.

She was on the Today show with the same outfit. The skirt is very short. When she got out of her seat, she had to tug her skirt down. I imagine that it would ride up on her waist just walking around too. I don’t think SW did anything wrong by asking her to cover up.

Southwest is out of their mind! Where do they get off policing what their paying customers can and cannot wear??
Like someone else mentioned, sitting next to a drunk is far more offensive and if SW really was about family values, they should reconsider serving alcohol on their flights. Do they not care about the passengers loading up in-air and then getting in a car when they land?

I guess I'm in the minority but I agree with this. Sorry but if I'm on a flight with kids and I turn to walk to the bathroom and your croch is hanging out....I'm just SOOO sorry that someone had to ask you to coverup.

I'm not saying it definitely was, but we weren't there. It's the same as those who are assuming she was dressed fine. We weren't there or saw how she was sitting or what happened. And I think the beach is completely different than clothes and your underwear showing. I still think SW had the right to address it with her.

Exactly you are ASSUMING that you could see her cooch. We are ASSUMING she was dressed fine because we SEE the outfit she is wearing....
I think people dress a lot worse to go food shopping.

What about the guys who wear the pants down to their knees you see their underwear..

1) who owns Southwest Airlines and more specifically, what religion are they?
2) Do we think a consumer carrier can force patrons to adhere to their own "moral" code?
I think she looks fine. I think they are riding a horse as high as their flights.
