gift ideas for a child having open heart surgery....
Hey ladies....
My 3 year old nephew is having open heart surgery in a couple of weeks and I am trying to find a little gift to send him.... Just wondering if you guys had any suggestions!!

wow, thats rough for a 3 yr old...
how about one of the lubies? I know after open heart surgery they sometimes give you a pillow to "hug" as you heal. Maybe the lubies could help in that fashion? My 3yr old LOVES them. He has a zebra, lobster and fox but there are so many cute ones.

My sister had open heart surgery at that age as well. Post-op she had her arm in a sling for awhile and couldn't move around. It's hard on an active kid so anything that would help him keep busy is a good gift- DVDs, coloring books or activity books, etc.

I agree with all the PPs My kids LOVED those mini pillow pets. Maybe you can get him a bunch? Some cool PJs, books, dvds, coloring books etc.

Dolls, Craft things that can keep him quiet, dvd's, maybe a leap frog jr? (it's an interactive book thing that he can play with in bed)

Our daughter had OHS in April - we were in and out of the hospital in 5 days and the first 2/3 days not much playing going on...but she loved her playdoh !!! Also the hospital had a big playroom and she could pick out toys and bring back to her room -
I suggest small containers of playdoh - she really didn't want to do anything for a while - your thoughtfulness will be sooo appreciated ! When he gets home that will be another story ! She got gifts when we got home - coloring/stickers/DVDs....and so on. That is when it really was great - she was home for 4 weeks post surgery.
Also, we were told button down PJs, which were hard to find in April....so fun PJs would be nice !
Hope your nephew has a quick and speedy recovery !

I agree. My Mom had open heart and after it she had to hug the pillow when she wanted to move, cough, etc. The hospital gave her one and we all signed it with a marker when we visited her.
Maybe you can find one of those white pillow dogs that people pass around and sign at parties?

They these I heart guts stuffed toys of body parts they have a heart one and it's pretty cute, they're big like pillows. Maybe it can be a way of assurance that his heart is getting better now, since this one is smiling.

I think PJ's for while he's in the hopsital would be nice too maybe with his favorite character
