Gift for a friend - need advice
Please don't quote, I'll take it down, don't want the giftee to find out!
DH and I have our best friend doing work on our house - he is a GC and has been busting his butt. Additional to this, he is negotiating with all his sub-contractors and vendors to get us better prices than what others might pay. It will be about a 60K renovation. He won't make any money on this. DH and I want to do something for him but don't know what to do. We want to give him money, so at least he is making something, but what is the right amount? I mean, he is doing us a huge favor and I don't think we can afford to give him anywhere near what he would have made on a job like ours, but we want to do something. Any ideas or thoughts on what might be an acceptable amount? He is DH's bff and probably isn't expecting anything. TIA

Wow...I had a similar situation with my dad who did a pretty bigdeck job for me and my DH and of course we paid for the material but he didn't expect anything extra. We gave him $500 and a GC for dinner - he was very surprised and thankful. I think something like that would be nice. Also, if you could ever do anything for him through your profession etc. you can return the favor in the future.

I was going to say $1000? Maybe an Amex gc, wine basket, gc to a nice restaurant?
