MrsM429 just went there for a weekend--maybe send her an FM! Cute town, my brother went there for college but I didn't see much off campus.

Re: Gettysburg, PA
It is a huge anniversary (150th) this year and I think hotels in the area have been booked for over two years. I would see if you can get reservations but it might be really difficult for this year.

Re: Gettysburg, PA
Harrisburg is right next to Gettysburg, and there were plenty of hotels coming up when I was searching for Hershey recently.

Dh and I went there in April and we had a great time. We stayed at the Keystone Inn which is about 1/2 mile away from the square, which was nice because on the weekend it gets busy.
We did the civil center and the cyclorama, did the driving tour throughout the town, and even did a ghost tour at night. Victorian Photography was fun, as was the solider's museum and the Jenny Wade House. Steinwehr Ave is super touristy, but there's a ton to do.
We ate at the Dobbins House ($$$), and Apalachian Brewery (we loved it so much we ate there twice). The Blue & Grey Bar & Grill was a great place for drinks and apps. It's smack dab in the middle of town, so it was nice to relax after walking around all day.
I'd definitely try the smaller B&Bs or hotels there because the 150th anniversary is next month, and everything will be a zoo. They were getting ready for it in April, so I can't imagine how it will be now that schools out.
Overall we had a great time, and plan to go back there in the fall.

Re: Gettysburg, PA
We just did a day trip (from Lancaster) a few weeks ago. Definitely go see the National Military park visitor's center. THere's a movie, the cyclorama and a museum. If you are a real history buff you could spend a lot of time in the museum.
The center of town is very cute with lots of nice shops.
There is also some outlet shopping nearby, though we didn't go so I'm not sure what there.
Both DH and I went to college there so we went back to visit the campus. It's very pretty to just walk around.
