Gem of the day...
I'm on the phone with my mil today to wish her luck before her surgery tomorrow. She said that my mother called her to wish her luck. She proceeded to tell me they spoke about me, the baby, plans and the exact date of my shower! She continues by saying how many times my mother told her not to say anything to me. Literally that split second she says, "omg! I wasn't supposed to tell you."
I don't think she deliberately told me, but this still stinks. Now I have to fake being surprised to my mother and I completely suck at that. If she finds out that I know, she'll be crushed. My husband is beyond words and is so upset my mil ruined the surprise.
How would you handle this? I think I'll just play along and not tell my mother that I know... What a complete bummer!

I say play along but I know I would have to tell my mom I knew. I know she would be upset but I can't keep anything from her. To be honest, I really don't get surprise showers. I guess since I live OTT I knew when both my wedding and baby shower were which was fine with me- I hate people jumping out at me. Maybe you could say something like that to your mom to make her feel better about it.

I'll have to wait a bit if I do tell her. It's hard for me to keep secrets about myself, and I'll definitely slip up.
Part of me wasn't TOTALLY upset that she told me because I didn't love the idea of being surprised at 7 or 8 mos, but I feel more bad that my mom wanted me to be surprised.

Wow.. they are early planners!!!!
I would be upset that your MIL spilled the beans, but if youre like me you probably would have figured it out eventually anyway!

True... With my coaching schedule, I could have narrowed down the date myself... and yes, my mom is an early planner like myself, but it's also in a location that is very quick to book so I don't blame her.
The part that annoys me is my mil doesn't think before she talks. This is classic for her and I always blame it on the "she doesn't know how to act because she's off the boat" excuse. She needs to start being more conscious of what comes out of her mouth.

Re: Gem of the day...
This happened to me with my bridal shower, except it was my Mom who slipped, she was talking about all these things she had to get done and then said "and then next Saturady is your ..(sudden pause)"
She didn't mean to, so I just played it off like I didn't know, I didn't want to ruin it for everyone who had planned it. To this day no one knows I was tipped off.

Re: Gem of the day...
Do you think it's possible that your mil would tell your mom she slipped up?
If not, I would play along and act surprised. I would hate for my mom's efforts to be ruined by me telling her I knew.
GL and enjoy anyway!

Re: Gem of the day...
Maybe she's fooling you. Maybe she gave you an exact date to throw you off.
Hopefully so!
Otherwise........try as hard as possible to not tell your mom you know. Mom's get so heartbroken with that! If anything.....it would be better for your mom to think you figured it out on your own.

Re: Gem of the day...
aw im sorry, MIL did this for my bridal shower. Totally not on purpose, but I was so bummed. I would spare your mom, and play along! You still don't know how its going to look, maybe a theme, games etc. so you still have some to be surprised about!

Re: Gem of the day...
it's fine.
My MIL did that with my bridal shower.... she is incapable of keeping a secret. It's not her fault. it's her personality type....
none the less, I had a wonderful time... it's definitely not worth getting angry or upset about!

Re: Gem of the day...
my MIL did that for my bridal shower- she put it on her calendar in her kitchen for all to see... SO, I knew-
I did not tell anyone BUT DH and my MOH that I knew... I acted surprised the day of....AFTER I told my mother I knew...I didn't want to ruin it for her beforehand since I knew she worked so hard for it.

Re: Gem of the day...
I'm sorry. I found out about my bridal shower and I was so upset. It was also because of my MIL but not because she accidently told me but because I was looking at something she sent my mom that had the date on it!
