Garden Help!
We moved into our new home in July and the people before us , had large gardens in the front and back yards. From what I've been told by the neighbors they were outside maintaining the yard everyday, but that is just not for us. Now everything is overgrown and we don't know what's what. It is very overwhelming and we are trying to figure out where to start. Any pointers on how to remove/deal with an "inherited" garden?

I have the same problem. Apparently the guy who lived there before me helped other people on the block too. I felt so bad for how bad I let it get. I want something that's easy to maintain, and right now everything is horribly overgrown. My mom came and helped me last week. We started by just pulling and digging out everything. We've only gotten a 1/4 of the way through, and it already looks better. She says now is a good time to do it because the ground is still soft. In the spring I'll start planting the things I want. It's a lot of work to get rid of everything, but hopefully it'll look decent next year.

If it is that bad, then you need to pull everything out, and start over. If you dont want the front to look bare for the winter, goto Home depot and pick up a few small bushes that will not grow that high and have easy maintenance. I just did this in my backyard. I had 6 bushes removed, and I planted 3 Asters and a few bushes in between. And then I put out some solar lights. It looks great.

Same here. We were told that same thing by our neighbors and we don't have that kind of time. Plant what you know you can maintain.
