Has anyone had their gallbladder out and can recommend who they used? My mom is a two-time cancer survivor and has alot of scar tissue. She needs her gallbladder out and a hernia repaired. Her dr recommended only one doctor and he said he doesn't do hernias. I would appreciate any and all recommendations!

Re: gallbladder/hernia surgeon
I had mine done as an emergency at Good Sam and the surgeon on call happened to be great. During the surgery he discovered an umbilical hernia I didn't even know I had ( i was 5 weeks post partum) and he fixed that too.
His name is doctor Way Lee at South Shore Surgical Specialists in West Islip

Thanks! How long was your recovery, if you don't mind me asking? My mom is my childcare provider so I am also trying to plan for how long she will be recovering for.

It was done laproscopically - which is how they will do it unless they run into major issues- my surgeon prided himself on how like 99% of his gallbladder removals were successfully done laproscopically I remember. I had the surgery around 1030 am and was home around 4 pm.
I was sore for a few days (nothing terrible though) and I felt 100% in a week. I was back at work in 1 week exactly.
With the hernia repair though you are not allowed to lift anything over 10 pounds for quite some time- I want to say 4-6 weeks. That was a challenge with a baby who was just over 10 lbs at the time of the surgery plus her carseat, etc.

I'd recommend dr vosswinkel 1000x over!! He's an amazing surgeon at stony brook. He removed both mine and my moms gall bladders and umbilical hernia repairs. He also took care of my dads hernia. He is beyond amazing.

I'm doing my research right now as well and a name I keep hearing is Dr Halpern at Winthrop. I know someone that has used him personally and had great things to say with an easy recovery.
I have an appt today where I'm expecting to hear that I have to find a surgeon and he will be the dr I call for a consult.

I had mine done laproscopically years ago by Dr. Richard Shinbrot in Massapequa. I had it done on a Friday and was back to work at my office job on Tuesday.

That's who I used. He was very highly recommended many times over.
The day before my surgery I had to do the preop testing at Winthrop. The nurse asked who my surgeon was. I told her and she raved about him. I joked that she must say that to everyone. She said no. If she didn't like someone she just wouldn't say anything.
