Furniture stripping and refinishing

The furniture that DH and I use now in our bedroom was my grandmother's. It is the kind of furniture that is no longer made. VERY heavy wood. It is still functional and beautiful. We would like to make it Abby's when we move, give the new baby Abby's furniture and get a new set of our own.

Years of wear and tear show that it needs to be stripped and refinished. There are scrapes and magic marker markings on it, but to buy this new would be a fortune.

Does anyone know of a company that would strip and refinish furniture either in the home or at their location in Nassau County?

Ive asked in the past if people have done this, but i did not get any company recommendations. TIA

Here are the pieces:

On this thread someone mentions a vendor that does that.

It's a beautiful set are you going to keep it in the wood color? I think it would look great in an antique white.

I was thinking white too with crystal knobs. That would look so beautiful.

Shelly's husband is a cabinet maker, maybe he could do this?

I never thought to do white. It is certainly something to think about. Thanks!

thx for posting this...we are using DH's grandmothers set and it looks very very similar to this, and I've been searching everywhere to get it refinished..as my MIL always says, "they don't make it the way they used to..."Chat Icon

Re: Furniture stripping and refinishing

Our bedroom furniture is a lot like this. It's antique furniture that DH stripped and crackle painted. We decided to replace the knobs and that turned out to be expensive but worth it to change the look a little bit. I think there may be an LIF vendor that also does this. I'm very happy with it. I seem to find people who do this when I am not looking! We have another antique piece that we just cleaned and polished and that made a huge difference.

My IL's had their dining room set and side board redone by them and they were very pleased.

Sorry I'm just seeing this now -- yup, Debbie is my mom and she's a vendor on here... she refinishes furniture in addition to her other decorative painting (she's going to be doing a set for us when we close on our new house!)
