Furniture Dilema - WWYD?

We had a TON of stuff in what will be the baby's nursery - I didn't realize how big the room was until we moved it all out -
So, I originally ordered only a crib and long dresser (below, w/o the changing station thing)
.
I can easily fit a gilder and another piece of furniture. -
I really really want a bookshelf, but I also know as he grows he'll need more storage space - he's obviously not going to be wearing baby clothes forever !! -
I feel like it's a waste to buy the $$$ bookcase that goes w/ his set - But I don't know - I don't really like the armoire that goes w/ it -

Should I just nix the bookcase and put some shelving on the wall and get the tall dresser ??

What do you think?

i think the blue thingy is perfect for right now....

for the time being - you can buy plastic or cute baskety type things to hold toys in...and when the baby is ready for books and things - the bins come out and wa-la!

The blue thing is the bookcase - And I love the piece, I just don't know if it's really practical to 'grow' w/ him -
We tried to pick out furniture that would work as he grew up .........not just to 5 years old ........But hopefully at least through Jr High - possibly HS

It's a dark wood -

see i think that would DEFINITELY work.... it can hold books, trophies, and whatever on the bottom behind the doors.....i'm thinking CD player or MP3 player by then on the bottom most shelf (above drawer)...maybe cd's or dvd's below (once he is old enough)...

my brother had a piece similar to this when he was young and it's actually still in my parents' house - still getting used....for book storage and on the top - some knick knacks...

I'm assuming there is no closet in the room?

You could always in the future get him a bed with storage underneath, like the ones with drawers.

that's true - and I don't doubt I'd find a use for it. - I'm just wondering if it would be BETTER in the long run for him to have more clothing storage -
What a PITA this is !!!

Re: Furniture Dilema - WWYD?

I would do the blue piece-- are the shelves also adjustable or removable? Eventually it can be used as a media center also. I think that's a versatile piece in general.

I'll probably buy some stuff once we move-- btw, did you see my crib pics?? Very happy with the crib!!

I'd get the bookcase. I still have the bookcase my parents got for me when I was a baby. And it is in my dining room.

Re: Furniture Dilema - WWYD?

what color is the wood? i would probably buy a more "adult" bookcase in the same wood finish so you can fit more in there. i like the ones that you can put books in but that you can also buy little baskets for to store toys/clothing/etc.

I like the bookcase, and it can be used for other things later on. We did not buy a bookcase for DS , and it is the one piece we had to get later....

is this the Ikea one?? We have had this piece for a couple of years already, we had it in our apt in thr city as a room divider and moved with it-- and it's staying in the baby's room... Here is what it looks like before and all "babied" up:

Well if you want all the pieces to match I would nix the book case - and get a tall dresser. Honestly I had no idea how many draws DD's stuff takes up. So I think in the long run the tall dresser would be more helpful than a bookcase. You can always put shelves on the wall or get a bookcase down the road - that is much easier to add than the tall dresser.

Re: Furniture Dilema - WWYD?

Maybe this will help -
This is the actual color -

Does that make a difference? I think I'm leaning toward the tall dresser - and then trying to find a small, tall but skinny bookcase that I can coordinate -
